Re: Is anyone playing on GLTA tour?

Anyone from the Denver area?
I am thinking of playing this year, I just have been so busy and my serve is so much weaker than the rest of my game...I really need to work it.

I know him, his favourite player is Elena Dementieva. When he makes a winner he shouts 'COME ON ELENA'

Re: Glta

I've entered in the 2012 Mardi Gras Championship in Sydney, which is part of the GLTA tour

I didn't even know such a tour existed until this week...

Re: Glta

There's an event in Boston every year that I've just been turned onto about. I may play it this year depending on my schedule .

Cool! how was it? do you have a GLTA ranking?

(sorry - I'm not laughing at you, I just find the whole concept slightly amusing...)

And shouldn't this thread be in "amateur players" forum??

Re: Glta

So the draw for the Sydney Mardi Gras Tennis Tournament is out (starts tonight). I'm in the A Grade, along with a minor celebrity: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_Enus

We'll play each other in R2 if we both win our first matches!

Re: Glta

Todd, any mentions of when you signed up in like the C draw and killed everyone cause you are obviously not a C player?

And I feel like playing the Queens Cup in Montreal every year, but 1) supppper expensive for a tournament (like 100$) and 2) the winner is the same each year in the Open category and I probably beat him 6-1 6-1 So I definitely won't pay 100$ for that. Which sucks cause I would be totally into it.

Re: Glta

Well, I had an awesome time at the Sydney Mardi Gras tennis tournament. Am completely wrecked after so much tennis. Here's my results: http://glta.tournamentsoftware.com/s...08B6&player=35

I was happy to reach to the SF of the A grade. I played really well on Saturday but was pretty tired and sore today. The highlight was my R2 win over Anton Enus (a newsreader on national TV in Australia).

Most of the guys were really nice and friendly but there were few moments of bitchiness on the court

Overall, the standard was good and it was really enjoyable. Would definitely play again.

Re: Is anyone playing on GLTA tour?

Hey didn't see this thread before. Last weekend, I played my first GLTA event - the Sydney Mardi Gras Tennis Tournament. I had a really great time. Good tennis, lots of nice people, lots of fun. And I played great:

I entered the A grade singles and doubles (with my partner who is about a B grade player).

R1 singles - an easy win 6-2 6-3. That meant that Saturday first up I was playing against a guy who is a minor celebrity - a late night newsreader on national TV in Australia! I had to steel myself to not get nervous but I played well and won 6-3 7-6. (I served for the match at 6-3 5-4 but lost serve and fortunately held it together). Then I had my QF and played about as well as I can play and won 6-2 6-2. By the end I was getting serious cramp. When I was serving for the match my big toe completely cramped and wouldn't undo itself. I had to take my shoe off and straighten my toe with my hand! Luckily the match ended soon after that.

Then I had R1 doubles and we won a close 3-setter. My highlight was serving about 6 aces, all out wide to the deuce court. Never done that before in my life! So that was the end of the Saturday and I was exhausted. It was a hot sunny Sydney day.

So Sunday morning, sore and tired I had my SF. I went up 5-3 in the 1st but ended up losing it in a tiebreak. Then I got it together and won the 2nd easily, 6-2. Then I played another crappy tiebreak and lost the match tiebreak 3-10. Disappointing but it was a great 2-hour marathon. Then we lost our doubles QF 4-6 4-6 (after being up 3-1 in both sets!). Our opponents were a bit rough and I got totally pummelled with a ball from short range when I was at the net. Wasn't happy. The bruise is still there, a week later!

But it was awesome. Then we sat around watching the finals and chatting to heaps of nice ppl. Would definitely go again!

Re: Is anyone playing on GLTA tour?

I know the guy that won in B singles, we play in the same club in BCN. I play regularly (more or less a couple of tournaments per year) and it's lots of fun.

Mr.SerenaWilliams & I plan to play the Gay U.S Open together in doubles! We'll both be playing singles as well.

And here you are, a black unicorn.
