Re: Your tennis results?!

Playing in my first official tourney of the summer, a lower ranked tournament than what I played so far this year (which was mostly Futures and thus quite strong ). I just wanted to get some wins in to be ready for the tougher tourneys coming up.

Seeded second, got a bye in round one. Was supposed to play my second round this morning, but courts are wet. Playing in about an hour, and then also my quarterfinal. Should sail through, semis should be the first real test!

Re: Your tennis results?!

Won my first match (second round after bye) 6-4 6-3. Was down 0-40 ad-out and 1-3 15-40 Man I like to have spectacular wins.

Next match in about an hour, against a guy who should be easier. But after this morning, I don't trust myself much

How do you keep yourself from getting nervous before a match?

Re: Your tennis results?!

Before answering the question: I won my quarterfinal match 6-3 6-2. Not playing that well, the other guy was giving me no rhythm, but the good thing is I'm through to semis, my goal to start with. Now I can just rest my body and try my best to be ready for tomorrow. Tougher matches to come for sure.

As for your question Aaron, I can't really answer. I used to be really nervous before some matches, but nowadays i have the bad habit of not being hyped enough and coming out flat. It happened today if my second round for sure.

I think having a good preparation helps you not being nervous. If you feel like you are ready, adequately prepared, good food, good training, good mental preparation, then you go out there being ready. The one thing that helps me (and it is very Venus of me) is that when I know my opponent, I write down things on a paper, like key strategies, things to keep in mind, and I just keep it with me in my bag. Sometimes, you dont even look at it, sometimes you need do. But you are getting out there ready, with a plan, and for me it helps getting the nerves out.

Another tip: when i am really nervous, I usually choose to return first, instead of serving. Losing your return game cause you are nervous is fine, even normal. Losing a serve game and being down a break to start with can just make things more difficult!

Re: Your tennis results?!

I won 6-1 6-1.

Well not much to say here..I was happy with the way I played even though my opponent was inconsistent. He was a lefty and he had decent strokes but after about 3-4 balls he would make a error. I was happy with my serve I tried serving and volleying because I knew I was going to win so I wanted to work on some new things.

I play tomorrow in the semis at 2:00 I'll keep you updated

Re: Your tennis results?!

Yesterday me and my Team had our 3rd Tie for this Season
unfortunally i had to work from 6am to 2pm
and the Tie was scheduled to be start at 2pm
i asked my Boss and he agreed i can leave at 1pm
but since i had a lot of work i just left at 1.20pm
i rushed home, got a shower, and arrived at 1.50pm

the match was very intensive, many really long rallies, a real clay-court match.
i broke him for a 2-1 lead in the first set, and this one break was enough to win the first set 6-4.
My Forehand was really good yesterday, and i think this was the result of my amazing Footwork.
My Footwork yesterday the best i ever did, i never stood wrong and i did a lot of small steps between each single stroke.
At the beginning of the 2nd set i felt a bit tired, a result of 8hrs of work before my match, and also a result of the energy i put on running around my weak Backhand to bring my Forehand more often into play.
I broke him at the beginning of the 2nd set
but he broke back and held for 1-2 lead
i held and broke him, and was leading 3-2
then he broke me 3-3
i broke him 4-3
he broke me 4-4
i broke him 5-4
at this point i was already empty , moving left and right wsn´t a problem at all, and i still got amazing balls back, but always when i had to move foreward my legs hurted.
But i said to myself "don´t let him know you are tired, move your ass and win this in two set"
so i served for the match at 5-4 and i knewed this time i need to hold my serve.
it was again a avery intensive game.
he was up 15-30 and then he played a long ball on my backhand side and moved to the net
but i was able to run around my backhand and hit a forehand longline from my backhand corner to make it 30-30
i think this was a very crucial point, 30-30 instead of 15-40
he never reached a Breakpoint in this Game, but i missed 3times ADV and so on Matchpoint before i used finally my 4th Matchpoint to win the match 6-4 6-4
i was really happy and empty after the match

it was also very important to win it, since it was the 4-2 for my team
i alos won my double 6-1 6-2 and so my Team won 6-3 overall

not my WTA-Tour anymore

Re: Your tennis results?!

played against my doubles partner today and won 2-6 6-2 6-4

i lead 2-1 in the first set, lost 6 games in a row 2-6 0-1 and then went up 5-1. Lost 2 SPs and went 5-2 and won the set on my 8th SP. Long deuce game.

Final set was patchy for me. Led 4-1. Lost that and he leveled 4-4. Cracked a racket and then finally won the last 5 points to win 6-4. Coming back from 0-40 on my serve at 5-4.

Re: Your tennis results?!

Ended up winning my semifinal against the 3rd seed 2-6 6-3 6-2. Started off so bad again, was down 0-5, but fought incredibly well to get my game back, and just fight for every single point like there was no tomorrow.

Ended up losing 6-0 6-4 in the finals against the top seed, who is definitely one notch over everyone in this tournament. He coaches the Université de Montréal tennis team (arguably the best in the country) and played number 1 for them before coaching. Was just very tired and heavy in the first, but really played well in the second, took advantage of the points early, was hitting deep and smart, went up 3-1 and then 4-3, but he just was too good in the end.

Overall a great tourney for me where my game really wasn't there, but where I played smart tennis when I had to, but especially fought incredibly well and found ways to get through the matches. That's something that always makes me happy!

Re: Your tennis results?!

Won my semifinal this morning 6-0 6-1

Won my final just an hour ago 6-0 6-3

The final was probably the best I've played all tournament. The guy I played was really tall with a big serve and he was a bit tired from his semifinal because it took 2 hours and he only a little time to rest. In the first set he was missing his serve and he didn't know what to do because he was tall and slow and couldn't stay in rallies with me. In the second set he got his serve going and I was down 2-3 but I managed to break him and keep moving him side to side. At the end he tried to serve and volley b/c he didn't even know what to do so he just tried everything.

But yeah my 2nd tournament victory this year and hopefully more to come
