Re: Your tennis results?!

My last match was a disappointment... the tournament was horribly delayed due to rain so they gave us only a small amount of time to warm up... When i started, I was spraying shots all over the place... But my opponent I thought was just so-so as I wasn't over powered, but yet, I could not convert anything... losing the first set 1-6...

Then the whole horrible play continued to 0-5 in the second set and i was facing match points when I started to have a better feel and slowly I was edging one game at a time 1-5... then 2-5, but a serve from me in the center was called out (I can't question it as it is not on my side of the court and in a small tournament like the ones my country organised doesn't have linesman and umpire in the early rounds...) then I lost the match with what we call a sudden death format... otherwise my "ace" would have been the sudden death point and I would have gone to 3-5 and although I might have lost 3-6, but who knows since I was starting to win consecutive games...

I was busy kicking myself for getting so long to get warmed up... I was really just hitting everything out in the first 12 games before I finally settled down...

Hopefully, I'll get better next time... so I lost 1-6, 2-6 against some seeded player...

Don't be deceived by the rankings!! Coria, Mirnyi, Schuettler, Fish, Safin, Henman, Tursunov, Wawrinka, Federer, Serena, Bovina, Li Na, Dementieva, Zvonareva, Sugiyama, Coetzer, Tanasugarn, Kumkhum, Zheng, Dokic and Kournikova are the world's best tennis players!!!

Re: Your tennis results?!

Started my clay training today for my red clay Pozzuoli Futures tourney coming up next week. I couldn't start earlier as they are just opening up outdoors here in Montreal

Was really surprised at how well I adjusted, was hitting my forehand really well especially. Then broke my strings, and it seemed my second racket was a touch too tight and really my shots weren't as good from them on. Started getting better in the end, hopefully tomorrow I'll be adjusted to the racket.

Couldn't serve for my life, but ended up winning 4-3 after being down 3-1. I really need to step it up though if I wanna have any shot at winning a match, let alone a set or a close one.

Good luck training Charlie I have a quick question. In your opinion, is the transition from green clay to red clay tougher in comparison from hard to green. I know our games might differ a bit, but i'm still curious to ask as i've never played on red. I'm more of a big hitter, but still pretty quick on the court. The timing of the slower balls on green clay always seem to be the most difficult for me . On tv they seem to bounce low and DIE on red clay

Re: Your tennis results?!

Today I played in the consolation draw of the U18

Well this morning I played at 10:00 am and won 3-6 6-3 10-8

Yeah this guy was a lefty and I played so bad in the first set shanking balls everywhere and hitting long. This resulted in a push of the ball and ended up being down 3-6 0-2 so then I was like I'm going to lose anyway If I dont hit the ball so might as well hit it well I ended up being more consistent and won the next 5 games before closing out the second set 6-3. In the tiebreak he was really pathetic he literally pushed every ball and it was so obvious thats probally why he lost he should have just stayed with his strokes. Maybe he was tired I dont really know but I was up 9-5 in the tiebreaker before a few unforced errors came in and I finally closed it out 10-8.

Now for the Consolation Finals I lost 2-6 2-6

So fustrating that beat the people I'm supposed to beat but then when I play a better player its just like I dont know what to do. I mean the guy I played this morning was good but this guy was better. He would run around all his forehands to hit high topspin balls to my Backhand, eventually I would throw up a shortball and he would blast it into the corner.

Ugh im so fustrated right now..its like everytime I think I'm playing well I lose badly. Maybe I'm not as good as I think. I called my coach and told him my analysis of the match and he said my balls were landing too short and I needed to implement more topspin on my forehand.

My forehand is decent it just doesent penetrate the court like some of the people I play which is why I lose they all have bigger forehands then me. It also dosent help that I'm a fairly short guy only 5'8. My forehand takeback is pretty short and maybe I should go with a longer swing I dont really know atm..

So yeah need tips for getting extra topspin on my forehand

And also I'm thinking about throwing my counterpunching style out the window seeing as its not working and develop a more agressive mindset

Re: Your tennis results?!

You don't have to be more aggressive with your pace/swing but rather your court positioning.

I'll be brutally honest: I've never played on real red clay before either I'm training on green clay as its the only thing we have here, and hopefully the transition will be easier than from hard to red clay, which I'm quite sure it will. I'm planning on training on site on the Friday of the sign in to get some red clay timing, but honestly it's more of a nice surprise to me to be playing that tournament, and I'm just hoping I can do a decent showing like my two Futures in March. I'll tell ya on saturday how red clay is, and it also seems to be rainy in Naples, which means even slower and muggier

As far as my game goes, my backhand is definitely my best shot indoors and on hard, as it is incredibly flat and I can hit it pretty much as hard as I can. On the other hand, its not really effective much on clay, and thus my forehand which is a touch more spinny does wonders on clay. I tried to roll my backhand in more today (a la Wozniacki, meaning more margin but also her best 'attacking' shot) and it worked well before the string break. Hopefully this racket won't break til I get to Italy, but I doubt it, I've been breaking them so often recently.

3 more nights and I'm on my way

Re: Your tennis results?!

played a league tournament today, only got to the QF's: double bagel for the first match and 5-7 3-6 in the QF's.
first time playing singles since my freshman year, i did pretty decent. my volley's were lethal today, just had a hard time finding winners from the baseline.

Congrats I really need to practice my volleys . They've been a bit too "loopy" lately

Re: Your tennis results?!

I wanted to go playing yesterday, but when we arrived, there was a big sign saying: all courts closed until after Wednesday... I had been looking forward so much to playing again and then this..! ... But that's life if you play on Red Clay and it keeps raining for days..! I really turned into a clay specialist, I'm much worse on Carpet and on grass (haven't ever played HC though)... but I don't like fast surfaces.

Re: Your tennis results?!

OMG I lost 7-5 5-7 6-0 today

I had 5-4 30-30 in the 2nd set, lost that game and was useless afterwards.
