Yas! That's freaking awesome!

My 3.5 team is two-time defending champs. Getting to go to Sectionals (ours are in Princeton) is such a blast. Although the "3.5" players in Philly/Jersey are really more like 4.0 that sandbag to stay at the 3.5 level, effers .

I've been watching more tennis on YouTube and reading a few tennis books that have allowed me to stay more centered. Honestly for a 3.5 (borderline 4.0) player I do have a rather extensive arsenal ... the biggest bottleneck in my game is that my serve is prone to breaking down so I can't start off the point in an offensive stance therefore limiting what tricks I can pull out of the proverbial hat.

The calf is doing better. I've been sleeping with my feet against the headboard so the calf and leg muscles are stretched out. It helps it heal properly rather than all gnarled up (the muscle fibers).

TT Singles: 2014 SF: Bogota, New Braunfels. 2013 F: Las Vegas, SF: Orlando, Sibenik.
TT Doubles: 2014 W: Trnava w PinkTape. 2013 W: St Martin, Orlando, Sibenik, Charlottesville, Nantes-YEC all w Soliloque; Lexington w DJDVD.

Against one friends I've had to resort to spinning the serve in, because it messes him up If I serve at a normal pace he blast it for winners but if I throw in an Errani serve he doesn't judge it right, and is more prone to making a return error. It's quite strange.

didn't you watch JJ v Errani ... ... ppl hate junky serves when they're tight.

Yeah I just heard that if we want to go to the playoffs we have to be the top team in our division So we really need to beat this unbeaten team! But I'm pretty much in the same boat as you regarding my serve. My first serve has a good amount of pace to it and is pretty flat so I can jam my opponent somewhat easily. But my second serve no pace, no spin, nothing. It's terrible But my baseline game is usually solid and I can change the direction of the ball nicely.

Glad your calf is doing better, Rico! Does John sleep on the opposite end with you as well?

Take a look at the radar for Ann Arbor today if you get a chance

I doubt we will play today. It will have to be rescheduled yet again

And speaking of junk.. I played my first flex league match last night and played a guy that all he does is junk ball. On every second serve of mine he would slice drop shot it. Every single time. I just couldn't get into any rhythm. I actually felt bad for him though because he asked if I'm on a team or anything and told him about the team I'm on. When I started mentioning all of the names, he's like oh yeah I know all of those guys. I was on their team last year but wasn't invited back and at another point I complimented him on his slicing abilities and he said "Thanks, but it's not pretty. This isn't tennis. It's junk balling and is why no one likes to play with me." I didn't say anything but in my head I was thinking "you're completely right"

Anyway, I won 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8).. So mad I made it harder than I did especially considering I've been beating these other guys on my team who don't exactly give me tons of pace either. Maybe in the match setting I was more nervous. Oh well. Got the win and that's what matters.

But still hoping for a good result in my first team league match

Re: Your tennis results?!

Junk ballers are pretty rough to play against I love random FH slices, but aren't really that effective... I just love doing it for no reason

In my FLEX league last year I played a guy who did nothing but slice and come to the net. All his serves were just a short toss in the air and a side slice, and he doesn't have any top spin at all. He throws in slice lob drop shots

The funny thing is, he's a 75 year old Rastafarian looking guy He's nice though. I fortunately found some rhythm against him, but it took me a good full set. Ended up winning 6-4 6-2. He was noticeably tired/not moving as fast as in set 1. He's in my section again this year, so I'll have to play him again

Cory you need to get your match in

Re: Your tennis results?!

Idk if I mentioned it here, but all of the USTA leagues/tournaments are not near where I live. I'm not traveling 50+ miles 3 days a week for a tournament. Sorry, but I'm not THAT devoted to playing tennis

But the guy I played last week did tell me he's on a team that mostly plays only about 30 minutes from where I live, so that's excellent. Unfortunately the season started already but he said he'd let me know when the next season starts. Said the guys are all inexperienced, while the girls are pretty GOAT Hopefully they have room for me

I make him sleep opposite, just because it's weird otherwise.

We need to get together and hit again, I think I can show you a couple things to help you deal with junk ballers that I've picked up over the past two years playing the Leagues. I also need to play more with players like you & Mikel who can flatten out rather effectively.

ps: radar looks

I have not. But I should! Whenever I do a tournament search o can't find any close places with good days. I work M - F and a lot of tournaments start Fridays

They have a mixed doubles for Ultimate Tennis so I might try that.

It was fun! Very different if there's 1 person in the competing foursome that has a mental block against playing the opposite sex. I went 4-0 in Mixed 8.0 and 3-1 in Mixed 7.5. The 18 & Up season I think starts in the Fall.

Re: Your tennis results?!

Played a few doubles matches, filled in for a friend. Won 2 and lost 1 narrowly. I've been out lately, busy with work and it's getting cold so just generously not motivated. Really need to get back to into it. Good reads all, keep it up.

Let the fuckery begin...again

Won the first set 63, all fine decent play. I thought i was going really well until 40 in the second where lost 6 games in a row to lose 46. I went down a break in the third before GOATing despite 6 more double faults, making a match tally of 12. End result 63 46 62. I play tennis only for fuckery these days

The amount of fuckery

What happens when you are up/match points? Do you just completely lose it and hit errors? Or do you lose concentration and stuff up your footwork and shot technique?

Does anyone here struggle against people who slice every single shot. With deep shots, short shots? Bringing the opponent into the net and lobbing them uncontrollably? It's very effective

Re: Your tennis results?!

Played my semi finals today, overall we won 4-2 and are into the grand final

Doubles: Lost 6-4. A shocking match, we quickly went down 0-3* as we double faulted our games away My partner was horrendous and literally could not get the ball over the net, he was playing extremely flat and making a truck load of errors At 1-4* I single handedly tried to get us back, and it worked for a while, getting us back to 3-4*, but the big server served and won that game easily and my partner was serving to stay in the match at *3-5. I gave him direct orders: get the fucking serve in (but I didn't say that...) and it worked. He held to love as I finished the points at the net. But after that he was just completely out of it, hitting two return errors in the next game, and effing up a volley when I was winning the point. I sent a return long on match point (but it was 5-4 40-0 to them, and my partner would have screwed up the next point anyway) to seal the error fest called a tennis match.

Singles: Won 6-2. I knew I was actually playing well, it was just my partner, so I went on and broke him to start (I was playing the big server from my dubs match, who also like the net) then held with 3 service winners. I broke him again but went down double break point at *3-0. I saved both, one with an ace, before getting game point. Don't ask me why, but I decided to hit an under arm serve, and it worked well, double bouncing before he got to it. But he just stood there confused, and I realised he probably thought I was hitting the ball to him or something. So I replayed the point, and aced him. However he totally bull shitted, saying it was out (pointing to a COMPLETELY different mark). I went along with it, but double faulted, and somehow ended up losing the game. Furious, I absolutely smashed the ball in the next game(a la Serena Williams when Bacsinszky drop shotted her serve) and broke easily, hitting the ball harder than I have ever. Then I started being a bitchy Rodionova for the call the game before, saying 'other side genius', when he hit the ball to my side once the game was over (I was serving then, but it was change ends) and I stood there until he got the ball. I then hit massive serves (anger works for me) to get 40-15, then somehow getting broken, by fluke shots and a double fault. But then I broke easily and held to win. I was very happy with my volleys and drop shots today, I am actually started to use drop shots from the baseline, and happy with my BH, which was very flat and fast.

Thanks everyone for posting their matches, very interesting to read
