Re: Your tennis results?!

Played my first Ultimate Tennis match of the new season today and won 61 61. It wasn't even routine, because the guy said he just started hitting in January of this year... so he promptly hit so many returns out, missed routine rally groundstrokes at the start of the rally, and hit a few random winners here and there. It was basically just hit it back over and he'd hit it out.

He had an awkward stroke production. I can't even explain it. He'd wind up with the racket far from his body, then he'd pull it into his body, then do a weird wrist/slap type of flat shot... I have played against many people, and have never seen someone hit a ball like that He was tall too. If his serve was more consistent he'd win a lot more cheap points.

All in all quick day over someone who should've probably gone to level 2.5 instead of 3.0, but I am not in a position to judge Honestly if I got someone more consistent I wouldn't have won so easily. Might've not even won in the 1st place But I'm taking every win I can get

Kind of, I never really use my Back Hand yet when I need it in a match it works well. Never the reverse switch though.

Please tell me this is joke. If not...I honestly don't know how people do this. Unless every time you get a match point you completely lose concentration. I could not take that loss, with so many match points, I wuld just...

In a completely unrelated question, do you know Tamira Paszek?

I am into section finals, our team at the top of the ladder by a crap ton of points, semis next sunday Also it seems I may get moved up to a new section, far, far higher than my current one I'm pretty excited, and I hope I don't get bageled easily

Tami and i are best friends. Every time i get a match point i'd get like thjs mental orgasm and go for a ridiculous winner, double fault or send it into the back fence

I always want to finish in style, so I go for a big FH winner DTL, and hit the back fence. Then I end up blowing 5-1 40-0 to 5-3 30-40 and have to rescue my match.

Our match got rescheduled for this Wednesday, the 11th

I want to eventually play singles though dammit! On Saturday we had a practice match and I played the guy who usually plays second singles. I started out really nervous because I knew the captain would take a look at the result and make some decisions based on that, or at least that's what I was thinking/hoping he would do.

So I started out solid and broke him the first game. Then I was on serve and my first serve was complete MIA that set.. Missed so many. Long story short, I played like complete crap until 3-5* down. The first set point I faced I actually fell on court, rolled my ankle a little and scraped my knee. What a mess But I actually got back up quickly and stayed in the rally and won the point

But he served it out and still won the set. I was just so frustrated with myself because I knew if I would play well that I would beat him. All he would do is mix up the pace, some shots would be top spin, others sliced - he didn't have a lot of power. He gave me no rythm but at this level I expect that. So I just knew I had to be patient. From then on I was much more relaxed and things started to click. I was moving him around, hitting winners and firing off good first serves. I won 3-6, 6-0, 1-0(3). After the first set I don't think I lost more than 10 points including the super tb

The captain asked the score and when we told him he said, "Wow! Nice job, Cory." So I hope that's a sign of playing singles in the near future

Re: Your tennis results?!

Played two matches this weekend, tweaked my calf again a little, and I'm sore as fuck.

Sat-PM, win, 6-2 6-3.
My opponent was a Kimiko like player, flat flat flat flat strokes. So I switched my game plan and game him tons of topspin off my FH wing which gave lots of short balls in return and off the BH wing I hit tons of slice so he couldn't clear the net.

Sun-AM, loss, 6-7 2-6.
My serve ... it is just a liability. He only held once during that entire set ... which means I didn't hold much either. The points themselves were competitive and intense. After the tiebreaker it rained a little and that's when I tweaked the calf, so I coasted to a bitter defeat.

Excellent result! Comeback wins are so good. I hope they choose you for singles it's much more of a comfort zone for me! Doubles my positioning is so bad because I never play it. And don't get me started on my volleys

The guy I did play though said they are looking for more experienced guys because they need more guys anyway but also all the guys on the team just started playing tennis. I've been looking for a team for more than a year. Please God let this work out

I'm on a mens 3.5 team as well as a 3.5 singles Flex League. I really hope we get enough wins to where we will go to the playoffs. That just seems like so much fun. I'm not sure how these things work since I've never been in a league before but right now we're 1-1 and play the only undefeated team in the league this Wednesday

Seems like you really use your head on court, something I need to learn how to do more of

Nice win but about your calf and subsequent loss

I know, I think the result showed that once I got comfortable, it was NID after that.

Is this for a USTA league or for the Ultimate tennis league? Good luck finding a team!

Yeah, most common tennis injury. (currently suffering from it too)

If your playing 4/5 times a week you've gotta start doing preventative exercises for lower back, elbow/wrist, rotator cuff and groin areas especially. Probably should join a gym if you dont go to one.

Playing singles tomorrow for my first USTA match that was rescheduled

I played a practice match again today against the #1 doubles player on our team and beat him 6-2, 6-1

Everyone on my team says I have the groundstrokes to be a 4.0 but not the serve

I wish my serve had more pop to it I'm almost 6 foot tall yet I can't get any good speed on it. It lands too central most of the time, but it doesn't jam the opponent because it isn't going fast enough.

Against one friends I've had to resort to spinning the serve in, because it messes him up If I serve at a normal pace he blast it for winners but if I throw in an Errani serve he doesn't judge it right, and is more prone to making a return error. It's quite strange.
