Arrow Tennis Poker - Stats for 2001

While four players are still fighting in Pattaya to decide the final outcome of the team event, let’s take a look at a few stats about the 2001 Tennis Poker season.

I’ve considered the 36 tennis players who were present in all the 9 legs of the team event. Curiously, this group doesn’t include many top 20 players such as Tauziat, Shaughnessy, Farina-Elia and Tulyaganova. I’ve listed their values throughout the season and I’ve compiled some rankings based on different criteria.

Of course, Ace = 14, King = 13, Queen = 12, Jack = 11, 10 = 10, and so on...

CONSISTENCY

First of all, I’ve summed up all the values. This ranking shows how the players were able to keep a high standard throughout all the season, to collect many times high class values and to avoid extended absences.

Just a note: the values of Schnyder, Carlsson, Sugiyama and Tanasugarn for the final leg are not definitive, but these rankings won’t change no matter what the results in Pattaya will be as these four players have no chance to enter the top 16 even if they win the tournament.

Other stats and the overall ranking will be posted soon.

Thanks dahling!! Nice to see Maggie doing so well (on any scale)!! :-)

Thankyou again Doc for all the time and effort you put into this endeavor of yours each year for us...your innovative game has interested so many of us for so long and thus belongs in the All-Time Hall of Fame in the category of *Games* (hehe)! Not only that but we all know you do all this work for US the players and NOT for yourself (in your spare time)...which makes it all the more appealing and refreshing! :-)

All the Best,
Valda

Cing,
believe me, you'll have a very good reason to check the 9th leg results, there will be a very nice surprise for you.

Valda,
thanks for your kind words, your great support is one of the reason I go on with the game.
I've often said that this game requires less effort than it may seem. It doesn't require my daily presence, and monthly it's not so difficult to find some moments to dedicate to this stuff which, I must confess, I really enjoy. This game is quite unpredictable and I'm always very curious to see who has done well and... who has not.
We should thank people like Jannak and Michael Blue, Tennis Poker wouldn't exist without all these sites which collect all the tournament results.

Thanks to Doris and Rachel’s questions in the other thread, I take the chance to give a few info about next year's game.

The new game will be called "Tennis Pole Vault", and it will try to apply the rules of high jump and pole vault competitions. It will be just test run to see how it works, I'll post the rules after I've wrapped up everything for this year's TennisPoker.

Tennis Poker will be regularly back next year, but with a few changes. After more than two years I think it's time to solve some problems and to try to make the game more interesting. I'm going to reduce the number of legs from 10 to 8, and basically you'll be allowed to change your picks before any round starts. There will be singles tournaments which will start and finish within the same leg, and I'm preparing a team event with eliminations round after round. I'll post everything here and on the website as soon as I've planned all the details.

Thanks!

All the values are definitive except for Schnyder, who is still playing in Pattaya, so we’re very near the final outcome. Doris Loeffel is the only poster to have her in her team, and she may score a top 10 combination with a certain result...

The loss of Sugiyama has decided the top 16 for another ranking, so let’s go on with the stats.

BEST 5
All the players listed above competed in at least five legs. How does the ranking change if we consider only the best five results? With this system, Huber replaces Martinez in the top 16.

1 - 70: Venus Williams
14 / 14 / 14 / 14 / 14

1 - 70: Lindsay Davenport
14 / 14 / 14 / 14 / 14

3 - 68: Kim Clijsters
13 / 13 / 14 / 14 / 14

3 - 68: Monica Seles
14 / 13 / 13 / 14 / 14

5 - 67: Jennifer Capriati
13 / 13 / 14 / 14 / 13

6 - 65: Jelena Dokic
12 / 14 / 12 / 14 / 13

7 - 63: Martina Hingis
14 / 12 / 13 / 12 / 12

7 - 63: Justine Henin
12 / 11 / 14 / 13 / 13

9 - 61: Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
14 / 12 / 14 / 13 / 8

10 - 60: Amelie Mauresmo
14 / 14 / 14 / 10 / 8

10 - 60: Serena Williams
14 / 9 / 9 / 14 / 14

12 - 59: Magdalena Maleeva
13 / 7 / 14 / 13 / 12

13 - 58: Sandrine Testud
13 / 8 / 11 / 14 / 12

13 - 58: Anke Huber
13 / 10 / 13 / 10 / 12

15 - 56: Lisa Raymond
9 / 10 / 12 / 12 / 13

16 - 54: Amanda Coetzer
14 / 13 / 7 / 8 / 12

Thank you!

thanks domenico! i still dont get it but ill try understand it better.

It's not shyness I have. It's just that I'm not one of those people who loves to open a newspaper of magazine and see myself all the time. I don't like that at all. I prefer to play my tennis which I love, and with which I've been blessed.

Let’s give credit where it’s due.

I’m compiling the stats for the players who have been chosen for the first time for the next tournament, and there are a few surprising new entries.

CONSISTENCY (Total points)
Thanks to her great consistency through the year and her brilliant season finale, Nagyova would have joined Mauresmo at #14.

14 - 72: Henrieta Nagyova
8 / 6 / 6 / 7 / 7 / 7 / 6 / 12 / 13

PERFORMANCE (Average)
Mikaelian would have been at #13 for her very high average, as she didn’t play much but she could score some very brilliant results.

13 - 9.000: Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian
0 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 12 / 13 / 2 / 0 / 9

Ok, I've finally updated the top 20 with all the new entries. Remember I've considered only the 36 players of last year + the 10 new choices. Zuluaga would have been the 11th but she didn't get any score during the 2001. Other players may be added in the following weeks if they're picked in the sign up thread. If you're interested in a particular result, feel free to ask.
