STA: Sign Up Thread

Strategy Tennis Association

STA is unique, well at least I hope. Playing is as follows:

How to play: This game is played exactly like a tennis match, you are trying to win games.
For every match you are given 300 points. Now throughtout the match you will be ''bidding'' for games.

Example: you will bid 14 for the first game, and your opponent will bid 28. Your opponent would will win the opening game and lead 1-0 because his bid is higher.

Now the 14 that you bidded will be taken off your 300 point total, as will the 28 your opponent bidded. So you will be left with 286 for the rest of the match, your opponent will have 272.

You will also need an umpire to play, he will be keeping score throughout the match, and it his his responsibility to say the players' total points after every point.

Where to play: STA is played on MSN Messenger.
If you don't have MSN Messenger, you can download it here: http://messenger.ninemsn.com.au/

WTA Players: You will also pick a WTA player to play as, so therefore making articles easier to write.

Example of how to play:

Umpire Says: Ready?

Henry says: Ok

Michelle says: Ok
(The umpire must wait for both players to say ok, before moving onto the next part. Now players, before you say ok, you must work out what your next bid is going to be)

Umpire says: 3

Umpire Says: 2

Umpire Says: 1

(Now straight after the Umpire says 1, both players will enter what their bids are. This is so neither player can just wait for their opponent to bid and then match it.)

Henry says: 15

Michelle says: 20

(Now if a player fails to submit their bid after a few seconds, and then just blatantly enters a number a few seconds later, the Umpire may award the point to the other player on the grounds of cheating. The point of the game is to not know what your opponent's bid is untill both are revealed. Umpires may use their discretion on this. )

Umpire Says: Michelle leads 1-0

Umpire Says: Point totals after Game 1: Henry: 285 / Michelle: 280

Umpire Says: Ready?

Other Information

Ties: In the event that both players enter the same bid amount (etc 14 & 14) Whoever entered the bid FIRST on the umpires screen, will win the game.

Tie Breakers: If a set reaches 6-6, it will simply be a sudden death Tie-Breaker. Whoever wins that game will win the set 7-6.

If you run out of points, (you are down to 0) then bad luck, you have nothing left to bid.

Schedule

Bonus Points: If you win an STA event, you will get ''Bonus Points'' which will be added to your 300 total in which are valid for the whole season.

Tier I --> 8
Tier II --> 6
Tier III --> 4

Im gonna join as soon as you explain 2 things:

1) It is very VERY simple to cheat
2) the umpire will have a hell of a time doing all the subtracting...

Is it possible to send your bids in ahead of time because it's difficult to do on MSN with time and conflicting schedules, but if you made everyone submit their bids before EACH ROUND then it would be better. Either way I'm in, this looks great Paul.

Okay, please bare with me on this

1) Cheating - That's why I added the 3, 2, 1 sequence. After both players say ok, the umpire will type 3, 2, 1 in quick succession, and then straight after the 1 both players should enter their bids, thus not letting either player just wait a moment, then enter it. Of course if the umpire feels that a player is cheating by waiting a few moments, he should cancel the point. (Umpires may use their discretion on this)

2) Calculator, Pen and Paper = easy scoring.

Nah, that's why I like having it on MSN. Because I want people to realise the strategy involved. That's why I want it ''live'' on MSN. So that people wouldn't just say any number, they would think about what their opponent is doing, his point total, etc.

I'll join as Lindsay Davenport

One thing Paul, can you just change one rule? I think that if the umpire thinks there was cheating, then the other player should just get the point at no penalty at all, so as to discourage that. If you just cancel the point, it doesn't really do anything

Lindsay Davenport - Anna Smashnova - Lisa Raymond - Sandrine Testud - Paola Suarez - Amelie Mauresmo - Virginia Ruano-Pascual - Nadia Petrova - Chanda Rubin - Cara Black - Tathiana Garbin - Anne Kremer - Monica Seles - Fabiola Zuluaga - Maria Sanchez-Lorenzo - Amanda Coetzer - Rita Grande - Meghann Shaughnessy - Magui Serna - Nathalie Dechy - Kim Clijsters - Elena Tatarkova - Maria Sharapova - Alicia Molik - Julia Vakulenko - Elena Likhovtseva - Anastasia Myskina - Emilie Loit

I used to list my favorite tennis players here...
...then they all retired.
I used to keep track of my rankings in fantasy games here...
...then I realized how much I suck.
I used to update this signature, once in a while...
...then I realized no one actually reads it.

I'll try it, now that you helped me in figuring out how to get MSN.

Jennifer Capriati.

Do you need our msn address or do you want the one we use most often?
