Hofmann forces out Patty's coach?!

Patty's coach Hubert Choudury has either quit or been forced out by Patty's fiance Rainer Hofmann. The Tages-Anzeiger newspaper in Swiztzerland wrote that Hofmann, who apparently controls Patty's purse strings, tried to withold the coach's pay after Patty's recent string of losses. Choudury left the USA for Europe last week after Patty lost in Sarasota. Patty's media speaker said the split was due to "family reasons" of Choudury or something like that.

Choudury took Patty from being ranked 52 when he started with her 2 years ago, to her current rank of 13.

Thats a shame. I was looking for Choudury last week in charleston. I talked with him last year at charleston and he was very nice, very inciteful...and very much a proactive supporter of hers. Frankly I didn't care much to see her play back then and he was like "come out and see her...she plays mauresmo in the first round...you will really like what you see". And of course whe made it to the finals.

He also said , in a different conversation (not refering to patty, but very prophetic anyway) that he doesn't care about money, nobody will ever hold pay over his head because basically he is his own man and nobody will ever manipulate him with money. He would live on the streets first. So i really liked that guy.

I saw patty practicing saturday....and she looked really great though.

yeah, I also got the impression that Choudury was a nice, level-headed guy and a very "proactive supporter" of Patty. He seemed also like he cared about Patty as a person and he wasn't just another vulgar, aggressive, middle-aged male vulture (see Rainer Harnecker, Rainer Hofmann, Eric Van Harpen, Patty's father, and god knows who else) trying to exploit Patty for money and personal glorification.

There are some rumors about Van Harpen coaching Patty again, although Patty has said she doesn't want any new coach right now. I guess Van Harpen is a good coach, but I just don't like the guy, he seems like the slippery and slimy type. His good results came a long time ago with Martinez at Wimbledon and Patty back in '98, since then he has done very little, at least in terms of WTA players. After he bombed with Kournikova he dropped out of sight for a couple years.

Anyway I hope the situation works out for the best for Patty, and that Choudury can find another player.
