-I went there for a little because I had a two hour break from work. I saw a lot of players practicing. Barrois and Meusburger were practicing together. Makarova and one of the Asian players (Chang?) were also practicing together. Zakopalova, Kerber, Washington, Keothavong and Sevastova practiced alone. In other news, I never noticed how tall Safarova was, and Sybille Bammer is still wearing that green outfit that she’s been wearing since last year
. Her daughter is adorable though
-I saw the first two sets of Garbin vs. Arvidsson. First off, Garbin’s face looks a lot like Henin’s. Not sure if anyone’s noticed before, but someone probably has
. I heard some kids saying that Ivanovic was in the red (it was Arvidsson) and Stosur was in the white (it was really Garbin)
. Garbin had two people cheering for her, and as I walked by I heard them say “Errani!” so I thought they were talking about her, but now that I saw the draw I guess they were saying that Tax was playing Errani in R1. Arvidsson has a big game. She should be back in the top 50 in no time. Garbin had some good points and some bad ones. Garbin missed a few easy drop shots, but then again she made a lot of them. It was a pretty even match, and I left after the second set because they called me to go back to work, so I didn’t see the rest. Arvidsson had like 10 fans, I guess they were her team/family. They were constantly clapping for her. Garbin had this really sucky ball kid. He threw a ball at her by accident and then she got mad and hit it over the fence onto another court
. Then there was one point that I missed because I was texting, but Garbin hit it out and she thought it was in and she aked Arvidsson if it was out and Arvidsson shrugged and then Garbin got really mad at her so I’m curious to see how the handshake was
. And the ball boys were holding the umbrellas so that the shade was on them, not the players
-When I first got there I saw Heather Watson talking to some British guy and she told him that she quit juniors. I couldn’t hear what else they were saying.
-The main match I saw was Tatishvili-Groenefeld. I saw most of it except I missed a few games. The first set was very close and even. There were a lot of nice long rallies from the baseline during this match. 99% of the points were winners or unforced errors from the baseline. Tatishvili had a lot of support. She had so many fans. Georgian and American. Most of the people there wanted her to win. Groenefeld really isn’t that fat. She’s chubby, but I think some people overreact. She obviously would be better off if she loses some more weight. Tatishvili is very fit. She’s not 90 pounds or whatever he tour site says. I’d say she’s 110-120. It was so exciting. Groenefeld broke towards the end of the match, and then Tatishvili broke back after being down 30-0 in that game. Then Tatishvili held and then she had 3 MP’s on Groenefeld’s serve at 0-40 and then Groenefeld saved all of them and then Tatishvili had another one that game but couldn’t convert. Finally, Tatishvili had another match point on Groenefeld’s next service game and she took it and everyone was cheering and Tatishvili was so happy. Groenefeld was pissed because Tatishvili hit a drop shot towards the end of the match and the chair umpire said it was a double bounce and Groenefeld argued with him and then she just walked away shaking her head and smiling and then she just walked away so after the match she stormed off the court. Tatishvili stuck around and took pictures and signed autographs for everyone and I congratulated her and she said thank you and then she was kissing some people that she knew and they said “Anna I’m so proud of you, etc.” and then she talked to some people in Georgian and one of the Georgian fans said “Spasibo!” (what does that mean Gigi?), and then they said other stuff in Georgian and then I left. Anna is really sweet and cute. She sounds like a little girl though, but I love her. It also looked like Chakhnashvili was there watching, but I couldn’t tell from far away so I went closer and then she was gone and then she came back later but I was on the other side so I don’t know if it was really her.
-I saw the last game of Kr.Pliskova vs. Rus and it was 4 easy points for Pliskova as Rus hit 4 UE’s in the last game. I’m not that impressed with Pliskova, but maybe if I saw more of the match I could tell. She also has a tattoo
-I saw some points of Castano-Han since it was on the next court, and Castano had a lot of Colombian support. After she won they gave her a standing ovation and they were all waving flags. I was going to have her sign something but there were so many Colombians there. They were all taking pictures and screaming. Is she very famous in Colombia? Also, some little girl kept on screaming “Cata-lina, Cata-lina, Cata-lina!”
-I also saw some of Reynolds vs. Mannarino and the crowd was great for that, screaming “Bo-bby! Bo-bby! Bo-bby!” . He lost though
