hellas719's NY 2010 thread-reports, photos, etc.

Today I was only there for a little because of the rained, but:
-Alison Riske was really happy today after her match. I thought she won until I got home and saw she lost. I didn't see her match, but she was standing there, texting, smiling, eating a banana, and talking to fans. I was going to talk to her but I chickened out
-There had to be at least 500 people watching Nishikori-Capdeville. Mostly Japanese fans of Kei. And they were none watching Ryoko Fuda's match. Is Kei very popular/famous in Japan?
-Michelle Larcher de Brito was walking around with her mother, making her mother hold her racquets
-Severine Beltrame's team must not care about her . I saw two guys walking and looked at their credentials and Beltrame was the last name on one of the guys and she was playing while they were walking around
-Ryoko Fuda wins the award for most colorful outfit . I wish I took a picture of the crazy outfit she wore
-Laura Pous Tio had 4 people cheering for her and they kept on screaming "Vamos!" and "Ole!".

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have actual match reports and photos too

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Re: hellas719's NY 2010 thread-reports, photos, etc.

I only saw all of Daniilidou-Diatchenko and the first three games of the second set of Georgatou-Gibbs

-Daniilidou is such a character. She once yelled "OUUUUUUUUUUUT! OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT! OUUUUUUUUT!" . She hit a double fault towards the end of the match and yelled "Stupid! Hello Stupid! Am I in kindergarten?" . Eleni wasn't that bad. She had some really nice drop shots that annoyed Diatchenko. Her serve was suckish as usual. Diatchenko was too good though. Most of the points Eleni won were Diatchenko errors and most of the points Diatchenko won were her winners. Diatchenko is a ballbasher. She reminds me of Sprem. Tan, ballbasher, same grunt . Jasmin Woehr, Polona Hercog, and some other lady were supporting Eleni and kept saying "Come on Eleni! Vamos! Allez!". After the match Daniilidou wasn't too mad and was talking to Woehr, Hercog, and the other lady but they were far away from me. Diatchenko walked by me though and she was talking to some blonde lady in Russian and she signed my tennis ball

-Next I went to Georgatou vs. Gibbs on Court 8. Georgatou had about 10 fans. As soon as I got there I knew they were her fans. They just looked REALLY Greek, sitting there with their frappes and everything . It was my first time seeing Eirini and I was impressed. I've seen Gibbs before so I knew what to expect. When I got there, Eirini had just hit a shot into the net which ended the first set. I saw the first three games of the second set before the lights went out and then it started to rain. I thought that Georgatou was going to suck since she plays a lot of weak events, but she hit some nice forehand winners and she just needs more consistency to be a better player. During the changeovers she looked upset. It looked like she felt embarrassed that she was losing to someone younger than her and ranked 200 places below her. I don't know if she'll be able to crack the top 100 someday though. She'll need to improve and gain more experience as this was her first grand slam. Gibbs looked comfortable and confident. During the changeovers she was eating a banana and constantly moving. Georgatou was just sitting there and it looked like she didn't know what to do. Georgatou also likes to say "Allez!" after winning a point, like Justine Henin

-I also saw a few rallies from Fuda vs. Fernandez Brugues and both players weren't playing well. I guess Fernandez Brugues is only good for clay, and Fuda probably plays those Japanese ITFs to get points or something

-I got a few autographs, but didn't take pictures because I forgot to charge my camera before I went

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.

Actually, Ryoko frequently travels outside Japan, but has been injured lately and hasn't played since June.

Re: hellas719's NY 2010 thread-reports, photos, etc.

Bronx:
-I went there for a little because I had a two hour break from work. I saw a lot of players practicing. Barrois and Meusburger were practicing together. Makarova and one of the Asian players (Chang?) were also practicing together. Zakopalova, Kerber, Washington, Keothavong and Sevastova practiced alone. In other news, I never noticed how tall Safarova was, and Sybille Bammer is still wearing that green outfit that she’s been wearing since last year . Her daughter is adorable though
-I saw the first two sets of Garbin vs. Arvidsson. First off, Garbin’s face looks a lot like Henin’s. Not sure if anyone’s noticed before, but someone probably has . I heard some kids saying that Ivanovic was in the red (it was Arvidsson) and Stosur was in the white (it was really Garbin) . Garbin had two people cheering for her, and as I walked by I heard them say “Errani!” so I thought they were talking about her, but now that I saw the draw I guess they were saying that Tax was playing Errani in R1. Arvidsson has a big game. She should be back in the top 50 in no time. Garbin had some good points and some bad ones. Garbin missed a few easy drop shots, but then again she made a lot of them. It was a pretty even match, and I left after the second set because they called me to go back to work, so I didn’t see the rest. Arvidsson had like 10 fans, I guess they were her team/family. They were constantly clapping for her. Garbin had this really sucky ball kid. He threw a ball at her by accident and then she got mad and hit it over the fence onto another court . Then there was one point that I missed because I was texting, but Garbin hit it out and she thought it was in and she aked Arvidsson if it was out and Arvidsson shrugged and then Garbin got really mad at her so I’m curious to see how the handshake was . And the ball boys were holding the umbrellas so that the shade was on them, not the players

US Open:
-When I first got there I saw Heather Watson talking to some British guy and she told him that she quit juniors. I couldn’t hear what else they were saying.
-The main match I saw was Tatishvili-Groenefeld. I saw most of it except I missed a few games. The first set was very close and even. There were a lot of nice long rallies from the baseline during this match. 99% of the points were winners or unforced errors from the baseline. Tatishvili had a lot of support. She had so many fans. Georgian and American. Most of the people there wanted her to win. Groenefeld really isn’t that fat. She’s chubby, but I think some people overreact. She obviously would be better off if she loses some more weight. Tatishvili is very fit. She’s not 90 pounds or whatever he tour site says. I’d say she’s 110-120. It was so exciting. Groenefeld broke towards the end of the match, and then Tatishvili broke back after being down 30-0 in that game. Then Tatishvili held and then she had 3 MP’s on Groenefeld’s serve at 0-40 and then Groenefeld saved all of them and then Tatishvili had another one that game but couldn’t convert. Finally, Tatishvili had another match point on Groenefeld’s next service game and she took it and everyone was cheering and Tatishvili was so happy. Groenefeld was pissed because Tatishvili hit a drop shot towards the end of the match and the chair umpire said it was a double bounce and Groenefeld argued with him and then she just walked away shaking her head and smiling and then she just walked away so after the match she stormed off the court. Tatishvili stuck around and took pictures and signed autographs for everyone and I congratulated her and she said thank you and then she was kissing some people that she knew and they said “Anna I’m so proud of you, etc.” and then she talked to some people in Georgian and one of the Georgian fans said “Spasibo!” (what does that mean Gigi?), and then they said other stuff in Georgian and then I left. Anna is really sweet and cute. She sounds like a little girl though, but I love her. It also looked like Chakhnashvili was there watching, but I couldn’t tell from far away so I went closer and then she was gone and then she came back later but I was on the other side so I don’t know if it was really her.
-I saw the last game of Kr.Pliskova vs. Rus and it was 4 easy points for Pliskova as Rus hit 4 UE’s in the last game. I’m not that impressed with Pliskova, but maybe if I saw more of the match I could tell. She also has a tattoo
-I saw some points of Castano-Han since it was on the next court, and Castano had a lot of Colombian support. After she won they gave her a standing ovation and they were all waving flags. I was going to have her sign something but there were so many Colombians there. They were all taking pictures and screaming. Is she very famous in Colombia? Also, some little girl kept on screaming “Cata-lina, Cata-lina, Cata-lina!”
-I also saw some of Reynolds vs. Mannarino and the crowd was great for that, screaming “Bo-bby! Bo-bby! Bo-bby!” . He lost though

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

Great reports. Thanks
"spasibo" sounds like what "Thank you" is in Russian, could be wrong though.

well, you can't be impressed by Kris because Rus hit four UEs in the last game but Kris has a very effortless strokes which are beautiful and a great serve and is a tricky lefty player go to for her next match, but she's playing LDL
