Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

The R2 win in Baku from 2-6 1-3 down against Scheepers was perhaps Shahar's best of the year (which says a lot).
Slightly improving, she can beat any non top 50 player nowadays but can also still lose to any top 200 player.
Having said that, the top half of the draw is as cakewalk open as can possibly be and she should make the final with that lineup, containing her and 3 players who were never even near top 100 and with the possible exception of Jabeur will never get there too.

(P.S. Shahar was also a set and a break down in her R1 match, trailing 3-6 0-2 to the Belorussian Kremen, but avoided another embarrassing loss by taking 12 games in a row.)

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

She trashed Majeric today and should do the same against Linette.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

She did. No contest.
The final vs Svitolina, who beat her easily in their first match of the season, will be a different story.
Hopefully Shahar can pull the upset and win a title after 4 years, which will also put her back in the top 100, but even if she doesn't, it was a good week on the long way back up.

She looks so happy, despite being the runner-up.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

It was a good decision to play Baku.

Even though she lost the final it was a great week for her.

I assume Suzhou is next?

While everyone's eyes are on Toronto, and quite rightly so, Shahar reaches the final of the Suzhou tournament. Somehow, this is a WTA-event.. Good luck to Shahar!

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

It's not a regular WTA event. Uncharacteristically, even the WTA itself acknowledged that and related to Svitolina's title in Baku as her first tour title even though she already won one of those 125K before.

Having said that, definitely another good call by Shahar to go there and rack some wins, points and confidence
Back in the top 100 and building her way up back to the main events.

To see her thumping a legit top 100 player in Babos like she did is pleasing.
She has nothing to defend for the rest of the year and getting back to top 50 should be the next goal.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Well she won her firts 125k , beeting her unranked opponent 62 26 63.
According to the stats, nothing to be proud of.
I really can't understand why she is not able to improve her sreves, first and seconds. The stas are terrible.
She will improve in the rankings and probabely return to be a top 100 player, but IMO she has nothing to offer against top 50 players.

Saisai Zheng is definitely ranked, just not seeded.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Tough first round US Open qualifier for Shahar

(1)Shahar Peer v Ksenia Pervak

Pervak has beaten several top 50 players in the past 12 months.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Don't forget Pervak beat Shahar at Wimbledon 2 years ago, and she has a pretty solid game too.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Pervak hasn't done well since she came back a few weeks ago though. So Shahar should get through.

The rest of the draw doesn't look bad though.
