Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

And as you posted elsewhere, Lankri lost to that Mexican player in the final.
With those points to be added next week, Khazaniuk would be about #645, Lankri #655, both inching within less than 10 ranking points from the top 600. The fact that over the past 8 years only seven players (counting Savransky) were at one point or another over that not-too-imposing barrier says a lot about the depth - or lack thereof - of Israeli tennis.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Why aren't the Israeli hopes (if you can call them that) playing this year?
Is Patiuk still injured? What about Lankri?
Khazaniuk has finally entered two 25K last month but that also doesn't exactly looks like the road to a pro-career.

Next week Linetskaya and Lee Or (don't really know anything about her) will be playing qualies in 10ks.
The week after that: Shani Blecher (also new to me), Glushko, Khazaniuk, Shlomo, Lankri, Linetskaya, and Lee Or are all in the acceptance lists

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

I only know the names of Or and Blecher from previous local 10Ks and the national championships.
Thanks for the update. Do you get all the info from the ITF site or do you have any other source?
Still doesn't explain the inactivity of most of them (especially Lankri) over the last few months, and from Patiuk not on your list I take it she is still carrying an injury

Seeing the results almost makes you wish they remained inactive
  • Glushko, seeded 5/Q, failed to qualify in Dothan (USA) 50K.
  • Khazaniuk (7/Q) and Shlomo (2/Q) at least played up to their seeds and made the MD in an Uzbek 25K (Keren just barely) before losing R1 in straight sets, Deniz against another qualifier with a very similar ranking (and age) to hers.
  • Lankri lost 1&0 in a 10K in Antalya.
  • Lee Or didn't make the MD in a 10K in Greece (at least she won a match).
  • Blecher got into a 10K in Peru(!) [which was supposed to have a 64Q draw and ended up not having qualies at all, with all 30 players there straight into the MD - haven't seen anything like that ] and lost R1.
  • And the talented, troubled one disappeared, again.
And it's not like our #1 player is doing great atm.
It's simply depressing to be an Israeli tennis fan these days and there's not even a sign that things are going to get any better.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

By the way, Glushko lost to a player she had defeated 3 times before.

Raanana 10K: http://beta.itftennis.com/procircuit...tid=1100026581

As usual, weak even for a 10K, but unusually the local girls are actually holding their own against most of the foreign ones, both in qualies and MD.
Don't know if that's saying much but any positive is news nowadays...
Of course the most significant news of this tournament is the return of its title-holder: Valeria Patiuk

As for Lev Ari, that's nice, but I think to be upgraded to a "hope for the future" you have to start playing outside the yearly 3-4 local 10Ks.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Hertzliya 25K qualies: http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/...tid=1100030179

In 11 matches vs foreigners the Israeli players went 0-11, took a total of zero sets and 33 games
Looking at these results always makes me cringe

Luckily two sections had only Israeli players so two of them could qualify

Edit: one of the local qualifiers is a 14 y.o girl named Avital Vulf:

Very tall and is billed as "hopeful for the future" according to those who've seen her.
Trained at the Ramat Hasharon tennis center and left a year ago, no data where to.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

New transfer from Uzbekistan- Vlada Ekshibarova

Won the $10,000 singles title at Akko,Israel this week.

From Wikpedia:

Vlada Ekshibarova (born 14 March 1989 in Tashkent) is an Israel–Uzbekistani tennis player.

Ekshibarova has won six singles titles on the ITF tour in her career. On 14 July 2008, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 352. On 7 May 2012, she peaked at world number 461 in the doubles rankings.

Ekshibarova made her WTA tour debut at the 2004 Tashkent Open, having received a wildcard into the doubles tournament with Dilyara Saidkhodjaeva, but they lost to Ekaterina Bychkova and Maria Goloviznina in the first round.[1]

Playing for Uzbekistan at the Fed Cup, Ekshibarova has a win-loss record of 1–9.[2]

In June 2016, Ekshibarova decided to play for Israel instead of Uzbekistan.
