Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

I would have thought that Peer's prominence and attention in the Israeli sports world would have served as an inspiration to parents and their young sports-minded daughters to take up the game in record numbers. Out of all of that interest, you would have thought that some 14-16 yr. old would have broken through at the junior level to reach world class status. Is tennis a game that is growing in Israel at the youngest levels?

Not enough at all, thanks to the politics and ego fights between the assassination and the Israeli tennis center

Yoni was injured, and dropped in rankings.
Andy said they will go back to playing together when Yoni regains his favorable ranking position.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

She led Shlomo by a set in her only previous tournament, a 10K in Raanana in May, also in the QF.
Khazaniuk was also billed greatly as a future hope not long ago...

Lankri and Khazaniuk will play one against each other in the singles final.

When was the last time that two Israelis played against each other in a final outside of Israel?
Personally I don't recall any all-Israeli final abroad, though I haven't been following ITFs for that long so maybe someone else knows better

The Israelis had a great week in this 10K in Greece. They were 3/3 out of qualifying (albeit a single round), beat several seeds en route to this final - winner Khazaniuk comfortably took out the top seed, a Mexican ranked #500 - and very nearly took the doubles titles too (only 11 entries...), with the Israeli duo of Rona Lavian and Ekaterina tour losing the final from a set up.
BTW, in the opening round they faced Khazaniuk/Sakkari and won 2-6 6-2 [18-16]

Out of the currently unranked players, Lavian seems to be the most promising, going by recent results. I hope there will be a reason to make a new thread soon...
