Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

After passing two qualifying rounds with similar scorelines, but in the meantime she lost the 2R by walkover
And honestly I don't think she is.
First of all this was an unranked WC with none experience, hence the scoreline.
Second, she has played regularly in the last year or so and lost way too many 10K qualies, with no quality wins at all. In comparison to e.g. Astrugo she doesn't have half the achievements in more than double the tourneys.

I'd say right now the only hopes for some kind of a backup to Shahar in 2-3 years time are Glushko and Astrugo.

Link to results:
http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tour...0018465&event=

Arguably the weakest 10k of the year, yet a decent showing of the locals, beating some of the few guests including the top seed. I have no idea who is Doron Muravnik...

Astrugo playing qualies Was it because of late registry?
Too bad the best Israelis in the draw meet in the QF.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

My vote is on Angelika Aliev. She made the finals in the tourney by beating Chen Astrugo in the semi-finals.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

A very surprising result, but in two previous 10Ks this year she has taken set from top-500 and top-300 players. These are her only three tournaments this year - haven't played at all outside of Israel - so it is intriguing to see her on a full schedule.
(Here's a somewhat similar post on Julia Glushko from early this year when she was ranked around #750, already with a 10K title from late 2007 - hopefully much like Aliev tomorrow. I'd say she had made some progress since then... )

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Julia, Angelika and Chen always stood out to me from all of this girls.
Hopefully they'll make it in tennis.
What about the junior jewish girl that ITA offered to come to Israel and play under its flag? I remember reading about a Shahar-like talent and she had nice results and then disappeared..

Good luck to her.

And of course the comeback of Evgenia Linetskaya.
If she will be able to compete a whole year, she is the biggest hope for the next years to come.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Linetskaya has her own thread (which is just about the only traceable thing about her) and I guess you weren't referring to Jessica Cohen when talking about "Shahar-like talent".

Aliev lost 2-6 7-6(3) 3-6
Great week for her, but it remains to be seen what she can amount to abroad.

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

I did talk about Jessica, she may not be that talented but i'm just saying what ITA people said.
I do remember she had some impressive results at first.\

too bad Aliev lost

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

That's just..
I don't think any of them will have any breakthrough

Henin, Schnyder, Jankovic, Aga Radwanska, Cornet

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

Glushko, Astrugo and Aliev (if she'll play abroad too) will definitely continue to improve their rankings. Masuri will probably too, but she'll be stuck in the same 500-600 region as Shlomo.

Breakthrough is a big word

Re: Israeli hopes for the future?

ITF Raanana (10K)
The results of the Israeli players are simply dismal
If Julia (which is top seed) doesn't save face and take this...
The most intriguing guest player is #7 seed Sarah Gronert (GER), who btw has beaten Glushko last year in their only meeting.
