USO qualies

Julia, in the bottom (16th) section, got for the opening round the Wimbledon Girls champion, 15 y.o. Aussie Ashleigh Barty.
Match is scheduled last for tomorrow, so probably in a little less than 24 hours.
With all due respect for the talented girl, Julia should pass her for a much needed 40 ranking points.
If she does, Q2 draw is also manageable: Meusburger/Tomljanovic.

Re: Julia Glushko

Yay
Tomljanovic best Meusburger by the exact same scoreline, and Julia will play her tomorrow, once more in the last match scheduled in that court, but this time it's "only" the 4th, so around midnight Israel time.

I didn't notice until a few days ago how much she plays!
The US Open is tournament #34 for her in the past 52 weeks, already a very high number and surely a national record, and with none until late September for the corresponding period last year, this number could get very close to 40

One more general thing: the point allocation for slam qualies, which is 40 points for Q2, 50 for Q3, 60 for qualifying, is simply absurd.

Re: Julia Glushko

40 points for winning the first qualifying stage, 10 for the second win, 10 for the third (15 including the points for a R1 MD loss) look logical to you?
There isn't anything like it anywhere else in tennis.
Julia's personal interests aside, something like 15, 30, 60 or 20, 40, 60 would have made more sense.

Glushko 2nd round qualifier was postponed until Friday. She may have to play 2 rounds in the same day.

Re: Julia Glushko

she won her first set in Q-R2 6-3 against Tomljanovic after 42 minutes
she has nice chance to get the third round (personal best) and to gain a new high ranking

but she was broken in the first game of the second set :0-1*

2011 FITD:
W: Acapulco
R16: Qatar

Re: Julia Glushko

She will get a new high rating anyway, now it's about getting closer to the top 150.

After losing the first nine points of set 2, Julia holds then breaks to level up at 2-2.

Re: Julia Glushko

Broken right back, 4-2 Tomljanovic, holds and breaks back, 4-4.
Please hold and put some pressure on her.
Edit: she does, 5-4 Julia.

Re: Julia Glushko

GSM Julia, 6-3 7-6(4)

Wozniak leads Voegele 5-1 in the decider, Julia will be an overwhelming underdog against her (in about 4 hours!), but she has already exceeded expectations.

She wins $8,000 for making it to the third round qualifier. Probably, her biggest payday ever!!!
