Re: Julia Glushko

Julia loses 6-7 5-7. The score would indicate a very competitive match. Julia came very close to beating another former top 100 player.

Re: Julia Glushko

What a pity, had 5-2 in the first, even 4-2 in the TB, and set point at 5*-4 40-30 in the 2nd (and in the last game, again with serve, two points to take it to another TB).
Could have been a superb win, and then who knows, she'd suddenly be one win away from the MD...

But I have no doubt she'll enter the top 200 very soon, and she's definitely going to be playing some more slam qualies this year.

It's good that she got another Fed Cup experience, Tzipi won't be there forever. It was also a rare chance to see her in action. She showed glimpses of her talent, but committed way too many unforced errors. There is a lot to work on.
Well, she's still very young. I think entering the top 100 in three years is an achievable goal for her.
This was my first post in this thread, following a dead-rubber loss to Klaffner in the WG win over Austria in July '07 (her second one - the first was a dead-rubber loss to Pelletier three months earlier).
Well, maybe three years was overly-optimistic, it may take 4 or 5
But seriously, in page 8 of this thread, when she was #750 in early '08, I bet she'd make the top 300 (in response to Neta who said it won't happen).
It took a year and a half.
Then for more than a year she seemed to be stalling, if not going backwards, and according to various articles she was contemplating retirement (although unlike Dudi's case, I think it was media exaggeration in her case).
After seeing the manner in which she handled herself this week, on top of the road to and in the AO qualies, which contained some tight matches, for the first time I think she is destined to be our next top 100 player.

And to think that was only 6 months ago:

That brings her record against top-190 opposition (the odd number is because she won close matches against Palkina and some Bolivian player who were in the top-200 for like a month) to 0-10, when other than a close loss to De Los Rios last year, in all others she has never taken more than 6 games
Not very good for a player who is billed for years as a top 100 potential.

Re: Julia Glushko

She's already played some WTA qualies prior to the last AO - Stanford and Tashkent in '09.
I was actually a bit surprised going over her last year's schedule finding out she'd only had 3 tournaments over 25K last year, and they were 50-75K too, in the US HC season.
Anyway, a real step up would be to actually make a WTA main draw this year
