Early entries

This year WTA Warsaw changes its name to Polsat Warsaw Open. Polsat is one of the biggest Polish TVs and the one which broadcasts most tennis.

Participants

Warsaw is in Wozniacki's schedule
Aga won't come for sure. Ula is in doubt.

Re: Early entries

Striking a deal with Polsat is the most sensible thing they could have done. Polsat is indeed THE biggest privately owned TV station in Poland, owned by the richest man in the country AD 2009 (according to Forbes).

Re: Early entries

Maybe Polsat is not the biggest (TVN may be bigger with all it's channels) one but this is the TV who cares about tennis most in PL(Wimbledon, Fed Cup, ATP tournaments are broadcast in its sports channels Polsat Sport/Polsat Sport 2/Polsat Sport HD).

Re: Early entries

TVN is a part of ITI company which is indeed bigger then Polsat itself but TVN concentrates more on politics and business with their sports activities limited to the so-called "n" television based on the ITI digital platform. It's nowhere near as popular as Polsat Sport.

They should have asked Eurosport for sponsorship instead

Agreed, as I say Polsat at least cares about sports. They even showed the final of 2009 Warsaw on their main channel, they were the partners of the tournament even last year.

Oh, c'mon. There are only two WCs for Polish players in this event. Better give them to some young, improving players a la Kania, Zaniewska, Linette than to Domachowska who's on the verge of finishing her career.

Re: Early entries

Yeah, like the girl who was double bageled last year
You really think any of this girls will win more than 2 games in a match? And this question is serious
I mean, Polish fans want to see Polish girls playing in a Polish Tournament. Giving WC's to Kania, Zaniewska or Linette would mean, Polish fans, will see Polish girls, losing in 40 minutes at Polish Tournament in Round 1.
I can't remember when it was the last time, a polish girl qualified to a WTA-MD. (Beside Domachowska and Radwanskas)
And Marta surely is able to win at least a set or even a match

Re: Early entries

Oh, if WCs were given according to your philosophy Agnieszka would have never had a chance to beat Myskina cuz WC would be given to errmm... Joanna Sakowicz, Karolina Kosinska or whatever. I don't mind Domachowska playing in qualifying - it's her current level I guess - and with qualifying to MD she will give so much joy to Warsaw crowd.

Yeah, but Aga had some promising results in the past, before she got the WC. And Sakowicz and Kosinaka are just some random young girls like every nation has
I wouldn't mind giving them a Q-WC, what would be really better for them, as being bashed in MD by every player.
Marta should play in MD

But there is still some time left, so maybe one of the girls or Marta will proove me/us wrong.
