Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

R1: (20) Yanina Wickmayer def. Jarmilla Gajdosova: 6-1, 7-5

And showed real respect to Jarmilla at the net.

Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

Yannina received the unfortunate news after the match against Gajdosova that her grandfather has passed away.

Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

I'm so out of loop

I hope I'll at least get to see her play before she'll be lifting the trophy Maybe against Peng or Kirilenko should Cepelova not be a too big of an obstacle.

I'd really like to see them in doubles too with Kuznetsova, but I don't think it's in the stars.

Sad news about her grandfather though

She won against Cepalova 76 75. It seemed to be a tough match. I hope she can raise her level against Kirilenko.

Yes, the conditions weren't the best. It was like 40°C at Melbourne. But she didn't play her best, she said herself. I really hope she has a chance against Kirilenko, but I don't know ...

Yanina loses the first set in a tiebreak (4)6-7
Such a close first set, more than an hour.

Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

Wicky must serve to stay in the match
6-7, *2-5.

I guess it won't be a match against Serena

Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

Kirilenko wins, with 7-6 and 6-3.
first match was a close one, but in the second not consistent from Wickmayer. She played not bad and wasn't overpowered, but in the end too much errors.

Re: Wicky 2013 Australian Season

Yeah, it's really a shame about that 2nd set. Twice a break ahead, but couldn't just use it to her advantage
1st set was long, but since Kirilenko was able to hold seemingly easy in latter stages (twice to love), I just felt she'll take the TB.

What's Yanina's schedule after this?
I just hope the year goes better. She's usually done well in Australia, but then kind of faded away.

Yes, it's a shame
She's playing in Paris, she has SF points to defend... and after that it's Fed Cup, and then she plays in Doha.

Also lots of points to defend in Doha! Hope she can have a good run in both tournaments to defend her ranking...

C'mon Belgians
