Hello again everyone!
It was another tough one today. I played Errani at the US Open so I knew what to expect: she doesn't make a lot of mistakes and makes me work hard for every point. I just stayed aggressive, placed my shots well and tried to keep her running. She broke me back at the end but I'm happy with the way I played overall. My leg is getting better every day, too - the physios have been helping me so much this week. I'm very thankful for the job they've been doing.
Tomorrow I'm playing Flavia Pennetta in the semifinals, the first time I've ever played her. She got to the Top 10 for the first time this year and is playing really well, but since I've never played her, I'll probably be searching at the start for the best way to play her. But I know I'll play my game and stay aggressive. I'm very excited to go out there. I'm going to give it everything I have.
I had a good dinner again! Ice cream too
Other than that today it was the same rituals... nothing exciting really! The crowds here are great, they really get into it. I love it. I've been getting more and more used to the courts and the atmosphere. Hopefully I can go on a little longer
I only have five more pages of Twilight! I'm definitely going to read the rest before I go to bed. The fight is over; who knows what's waiting for me the rest of the book. I actually read the part about the fight right before my match today and I was all excited, which may have helped me
Okay, I'm obsessed with this book. Everyone is laughing about this because I have (nearly) read all three books but I've never seen the movie. I'm going to see it when I get home. They're also telling me the guy in the movie is really cute, but I'll have to go and judge for myself when I see it. We all fall for different types you know!
I was also happy to see Tamira practicing today, it was the first time I've seen her practice this week. She has been injured since Wimbledon and it's a great thing she's back on the court. We hang out sometimes. I'm happy she's healthy again. Hopefully she comes back strong next season.
I've also got a birthday coming up next week, my 20th
I'm not really thinking about it this week, and I'll be playing Luxembourg next week, and then I'll only have a few days before I leave for Bali, so I may have to wait until I get back home after all of that to celebrate. I might have to combine my birthday with Christmas! 20... I guess I'm not going to be a teenager anymore. People are telling me I'll have to act a little different now, more mature, and I don't know if I'm ready! But I know people who are 40 who say they're still not mature yet. My birthday will only mean I'm one day older, after all. Who knows!
Well I'm off to bed now, after I get to the ending of Twilight... I'll talk to you all again tomorrow. Have a good night!
How did you celebrate your semifinal finish at the US Open? Phil
I have to admit, I didn't. I was so tired when I got back home. I had such a huge jetlag because I had been in the States for seven weeks, my rhythm was so messed up. I slept a lot... I saw friends, did some shopping, went to movies... but after a few days I started practicing again to get ready for Beijing. Maybe I'll put the US Open in with my birthday and Christmas for one big party!
How did the nickname Wicky come about? Barbara, Brazil
When my dad was a kid, that was his nickname. One day a few months ago, my physical coach said it, 'Come on Wicky, let's go!' and it just stuck. It came naturally. People used to call me Nina before, but lots of people are called Nina anyway. Wicky is more personal, more unique. I like it.
