Sabine & Doubles

Prior to playing with Sam in Stuttgart earlier this year, had Sabine played any doubles matches with anyone else before, & is it something she fancies continuing with now & into the future?

Does she see herself having a career in both Singles & Doubles?

And will she persist in playing with Sam as her Dubs partner? Especially now since Sam has become a GS Champion - maybe Sam has bigger fish to fry after winning the USO? I hope they do continue - they seem to have a lot of fun together out there, & it would be a shame if the partnership ended for whatever reason. The more they play together the better they'll get I'm sure.

Here's to more titles for Team Stosicki!

Re: Sabine & Doubles

Not counting ITF tourneys, Sabine has played with ...

Rezai (2x)
Dubois
Vaidisova ()
Wöhr (3x)
Bammer
Wozniak
Ivanovic
Grönefeld
Petkovic
Stosur (4x)
Hantuchova

She hasn't just teamed up with Sam the most, it's also clearly her most successful partnership ever. She could barely string together 2 wins in a row in doubles before Sam. (And they haven't been doing that of late, either.)

I don't think Sabine is much of a doubles player as of now, considering her often lacking performance at the net and tendency to get overwhelmed by a 2-woman onslaught, but if she improves in those areas, she could become quite accomplished. She's certainly not lacking in general tennis talent.

The question is whether she really wants to do it all the time. Doubles slams aren't even considered that great of an achievement by most observers and the doubles are often ignored completely at tourneys, but I would enjoy it if Sabine played more doubles, whether that's with Sam or someone else, as long as it doesn't impede on her singles results. On a personal level, a doubles Wimby trophy would definitely have cheered me up after that singles semi, but the doubles final ended up being even more horrid in the end and my spirits were crushed twice.

Re: Sabine & Doubles

Nice that Sabs confirmed her & Sam will continue their partnership into 2012. The more they play, the better their understanding will be.

Re: Sabine & Doubles

Things are heating up for the Olympics:

In recent interviews both Petkovic and Haas announced their plans to play or play doubles in the Olympics. Petko announced she is keen on the mixed with Haas, Haas announced he´s keen on the Olympics in total.

Though I still don´t see him qualify, I think ít´s interesting that with his ambition and the question marks behind Petzschner and Mayer, this leaves 3 men fighting for London 2012 whereas everybody AT THIS POINT only talks about the legitimate chances of the girls.

Petzschner should have the best chances with his top10 position and I think it will work out once Melzer and he do good in London this week.

I think it´s strange though Petko believes she´s the better mixed player compared to Lisicki and thinks it´s just the question of a telephon call and set it with Haas, let alone that Petzsche is in the mix for the mixed too

Re: Sabine & Doubles

The "danger" for Sabine who stated she isn´t that interested in Olympic team events is that she can only gain points before Stuttgart 2012 if she plays with Sam Stosur 3-4 teams before that event which they won. Her ranking should slip drastically if she isn´t successful before that.

Naturally, her doubles skills, and her ambitions on grass are far more interesting for a team medal than Petko who might think she just enters because of her name or her rank.

I think Lisicki will overtake Petko in singles next spring so she can decide what to play and what the others will play by demanding a place in the doubles. Lol.

When/where did Petko and Sabine play doubles together? Fed Cup? For the life of me cannot remember.

Re: Sabine & Doubles

That's a mistake from the WTA. Sabine didn't play in this Fed Cup tie because of her ankle injury.

Petkovic played with Barrois.

Hope for an injury free 2012.

I just know Sabine can break into the Top 10. She really entered the Creme de la Creme now.

Top 15 right now include 7 GS winners, 4 GS finalists, 4 (former) No. 1s.
Now, isn't that good company for Bine??

2012

Sabine on fb:
Had another good day of practice today. My muscels are pretty sore but thats alright
Here are a couple of facts regarding next year... My first tournaments of 2012 are Auckland, Sydney and then the Australian Open.
I´ll keep wearing my ankle braces for protection. Sam Stosur and I want to play more doubles together.
One more thing that is special to me next year, are the Olympic Games in London. Really looking forward to that
Now its time to relax... ))
I like the sound of that!
