Re: Sabine News & Articles

Sabine Lisicki

Quotes from the article:

Quote:
"I take the steps to get there where I belong."
Quote:
"If I'm healthy and feel well, I play good. But I lacked the unfettered playing since the last half of 2012."
About the work with Sanchez:
Quote:
"It's a change, he has certain ideas that I'm trying to implement. This won't happen overnight"
About her form at the moment:
Quote:
"I'm not ready yet to play top tennis and to win against opponents who I normally beat"

I'm working with my coach from Pattaya, where I reached the final. Later I reached the final too, in Memphis, I was in good form but I got sick. That prevented me to play Indian Wells and, somehow, got my good disposition down. I played poorly in Miami, it was a little better in Charleston, but there I needed to play a qualifier and these players are the toughest because they already are in match-play rhythm. That confirms also in Katowice, where I lost also to qualifier. A tiredness played also a role, cause I've waited so long for flight from USA. The flights were delayed and there was no option of leaving US till Saturday. I appeared in Poland lately on Sunday afternoon, I tried to regenerate somehow, but not quite made it.
The article above mentions a flu virus she caught. Sabine said about it:
Quote:
"I have delayed the infection and was then completely out of action fourteen days. You lose the rhythm that you had built up so nice. You try it, but if it doesn't work the self-confidence goes down the drain."

According to another article Sabine struggled with a sinusitis in the Charleston and Katowice weeks.

Well, Sabine is always ill. If she cannot become healthy, then she has to change something. I don't like when you always put up excuses. I love Sabine but she has been suffering from too many minor things.

Why's this an excuse when she's asked by an journalist about her present season? She even didn't talk about her illness when she retired from IW. Dumb assessments like this are what makes ME sick.

My feelings exactly. I have had exactly what Sabine has been suffering from the past month -- some form of sinusitis/flu/bronchitis that is hard to diagnose exactly what it is but, one thing it definitly is not is an "excuse." I was making good progress in rehabilitating my knees but not being able to do my stretches and exercises have been a big setback. I'm sure it is even more frustrating for Sabine and, while she got criticized for retiring in Memphis, I think she was probably trying to do too much by playing the first set. It was obvious she was sick from the beginning and only made it worse. People who sit in their ivory towers and hurl criticism have either never played tennis or never faced illness/injury (and I believe Federer is probably the only tennis player who has come close to this second category).

Re: Sabine News & Articles

Makes sense to warm up for Wimbledon (grass) by playing Birmingham (grass), or Eastbourne...(grass).

Just hope she can last longer than R1 Brum, which is as far as she got last year.

Re: Sabine News & Articles

Of course she's playing Bham ...hello? Who of her fans could doubt about?

Bham is like Charleston for her! Never ever missing it!

Btw...haven't found any pictures about her and Janette's awesome doubs run in Madrid, but some nice funny quotes:
Quote:
There was a bit more drama in Janette Husarova and Sabine Lisicki's tilt with the second-seeded Petrova and Srebotnik. Down 5-4 in the first set, Husarova and Lisicki won six straight games to capture the first set and take an early lead in the second set. However, Petrova and Srebotnik rallied to force a match tie-break. From 6-6 in the match tie-break, Husarova and Lisicki did not surrender another point for a 75 57 106 victory.

"This week is the first time Janette and I are playing together and it's a lot of fun," Lisicki said. "We play totally different styles, and you never know what Janette is going to do next - I don't even know it, so it must be hard for our opponents too! We played against a really good team today, and we're really happy that we pulled off the win."

"It's a pleasure playing with Sabine," Husarova said. "I'm enjoying it very much. It was my idea to get together and I asked her through a mutual friend. I'm very happy that she said yes!"
