With her luck, she would get this Virus, just by flying over Dallas

It's a relief to know that her next flight will not lead her over Dallas ... but Jarka landed there today - she should be quarantined at the USOpen

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

Sabine had quite good AO and Wimby campaigns even without a lot of matches before. Don't like Dallas either, would be better for Angie to go straight to New York for practice too.

But of course, like before AO/W, it would be silly to have huge expectations.

Would have liked to see her playing in Dallas. With how she played last year, she might have gotten a lot of confidence going into the US Open. As it is now, her main goal for the rest of the season needs to be getting her health back and learning how to maintain it.

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

By US Open site:

(...)
At this point, it’s hard to be sure of any outcome in the women’s game – but it doesn’t hurt to take an educated guess.

On the eve of the 2012 US Open, USOpen.org ranks some of the players in the women’s singles draw who have yet to win a Grand Slam singles title who could play their way well into the tournament’s second week.

(...)

2) Sabine Lisicki (GER) – The 22-year-old German, nicknamed “Boom Boom” for her 120-plus mph serve recently celebrated her 200th career WTA singles victory and seems primed for a big Open run after some high-profile victories in the past 18 months. At the past two Wimbledon Championships, she has knocked out the defending French Open champion -- shocking Li Na in the second round in 2011 as a wild card, and then avenging her 2011 semifinal loss to Sharapova in this year’s fourth round. Lisicki also beat former US Open winner Svetlana Kuznetsova on the hard courts of the Australian Open in January, rallying from a set down. Her best performance at Flushing Meadows was last year, when she advanced to the Round of 16 on the strength of several straight-set wins before losing to second-seeded Vera Zvonareva.

Ankle and abdominal injuries have played a role in halting some of the 5-foot-10 bomber’s momentum over the years – she’s never ranked higher than No. 12 in the world. However, Lisicki’s powerful frame and fearlessness of the big stage are two major factors that could point towards a long run in 2012.

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

Am I right in thinking that the last match she has won on European soil outside of her SW19 realm was the Birmingham 2011 final? I think that's right. Preeeeeetty shocking.

Hopefully, she will play at least one tournament before Tokyo. Her bahavior of playing hard to get is a bit incomprehensible.

Yes, that's right. She lost 1st rounds in Linz, both Fed Cup Matches against the Czech Republic, in Rome, in Strasbourg, in Paris and in Birmingham.

Her next chance will be in Linz.

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

I've recently joined this forum, but I had to laugh at the first two posts on this thread from TheBoiledEgg, way back 7 years ago when she was an aspiring junior

really blasting the ball on both sides, esp her FH. returns were really awesome, always on the aggressive side.

then start of 2nd when she got broke.......... she really faded, her timing went and when she lost that...... really fell away

Sounds familiar doesn't it!

Re: Sabine Lisicki Cheering Thread

Exactly. What has been done about that in the intervening 7yrs? On the evidence of that, nothing. Is Sabs REALLY only going to be a grass court specialist?
