Re: 2017 GRASS season

It's finally getting started. First match vs Bertens who lost in the 1st round last week in 's-Hertogenbosch vs Petkovic.

Re: 2017 GRASS season

I was planning to make a thread using exactly the same photo, but you beat me to it

So excited..finally her 2017 season will start! The Mallorca draw has potential, but she hasn't played for almost 7 months... Usually she's a big mess after a (long) break, but she starts on grass now so who knows...

Anyways...whatever the outcome...I'm just really really really happy she is back on tour again

We´ll see how it goes, no clue what we can expect from Sabine but her draw is ok, Bertens can be a mess herself often, good luck!!

Re: 2017 GRASS season

I think that's right... she's baaaaaaack and therefore pretty much no matter what.

Obviously how this tournament goes will depend to a huge extent on what sort of shape she's in, and there's no way of really knowing that; on the one hand she's looking good and certainly seems very keen, but on the other you do expect a certain amount of rustiness at first. It is nice that the draw isn't awful though. Anyway, intrigued as to how she'll play and in more ways than one.

And it may also help that everyone else is adusting to grass as she is adjusting again to competing. I insist on allowing myself this optimistic thought

Though wrt injuries/comebacks one issue - hardly a rare one with players who have had sucky luck in that regard so not just an issue for her, and anyway it's understandable as a tendency - is that she's often rushed to coming back (last year was a particularly obvious case but hardly the first). Which does not appear to be the case this time. She should at least be starting from a better position physically.

Re: 2017 GRASS season

BTW she entered Southsea ITF 100K and Eastbourne Q, but for both she is nowhere near direct entry.. Anyone more news about that?

Re: 2017 GRASS season

Lost a tight 'n topsy turvy doubles match 4-6, 6-4, MTB 6-10. Not exactly what you'd call a vintage performance (well, you wouldn't expect otherwise really) and more matches are clearly needed asap but not as rough and rusty as she could have been. The main thing is, she's back now and this will have been useful

And playing third after 11am CET in the singles to-morrow.

So great to see Sabine back on court!

No expectations, but that is when she is most dangerous.

This shows how Sabine can melt the ice off of anyone.

Re: 2017 GRASS season

And she's back with a win: won the first set 6-2, lost the second 3-6 but Bertens had to retire. Odd match in a lot of ways, though o/c a win is a win
