New year, new season, new opportunities. 2016 has been a horrendous year for Sabine in various ways. So no more looking back! 2017 can only get better...well I guess it can't possibly get any worse.
Scheduling-wise 2017 already doesn't start very well. Sabine won't play any competition before AO. Everyone has probably noticed that Sabine is not playing in the first week. Well, she just missed the MD cut for Auckland. Not the smartest decision to be MDO for Auckland with her ranking...especially with the knowledge that she wouldn't play a competitive match the week after in which she'll play the Kooyong Classic..
Trying to give a positive spin to this scheduling mess anyways..although the Kooyong Classic is an exho, it will at least give her some guaranteed matches and shake off some rustiness before AO. Whether this is enough prep for AO...we will see in 2 weeks...
sometimes it´s just tough to understand her, everyone tries to play at least one tournament before Melbourne but Sabine is not even willed to play Q at one event and prefers to play an Exhibition only, the wrong decision IMO but whatever, it's not like we are not used to "strange" decisions from her and her team, let´s hope that she will have a good draw in Melbourne at least to get wins there!
I understand the decision of playing the exho, because it guarantees playing a couple of matches... But then at least make sure to also play a tournament in the prior week... And not playing Q at MMs...well beggars can't be choosers Anyways if this is the decision, then at least sign up for a tournament in which direct MD entry is more realistic... Oh well, I've always had difficulties understanding her decisions, so why should I suddenly understand it now  Anyways...still love her though
If you think back to this time last year she came back before she was in any state to do so and then the whole nightmare unfurled. So this doesn't come as a surprise; I guess that if she feels she's not ready then she's not ready and doesn't want to make the same mistake two years in a row. But this is so sad; would be so nice if she could have some *good* luck for once.
But the questions about the odd schedule have been answered I guess; did look ominiously like the sort of pre-Slam schedule that might be picked if not actually certain of apperance at said Slam.
Yeah think you have a really good point here! Feel so bad and guilty for what I posted before about her pre-AO schedule
She's had more than her fair share of injuries, but somehow I feel more devastated about this one. Just when she was making huge progress to come back in the end of last year, this shoulder injury happens We don't know how severe the injury is, but in her X-mas message she did say she just finished a practice on the tenniscourt... I want to believe with my whole heart that she just want to give her shoulder more rest and doesn't want to make the same mistake as in 2014 (also shoulder) and of course last year by rushing things while not being 100% ready... But on the other hand, you don't just skip a GS
Although not entirely unexpected, this latest withdrawal still hits me really hard Shoulder injury must be more severe than we all hoped..
But as much as I miss her on court, I only want to see her back on court when she's 100% recovered and healthy again. Hope she takes all the time needed and not fall into previous mistakes by making a too early comeback. Oh man...2017 really started shit
Considering that the tournament is immediately after the Slam she'd already pulled out of this has a bit of inevitable feel to it. Would have been surprised to not hear of a withdrawal. All the same...
Fingers crossed for a speedy and (more importantly) full recovery...
Well..it's been awfully quiet in here.. Guess Sabine's 2017 1st part of the hard court season will not happen until late summer No news when she'll be back on tour...only that she's in rehab right now. Hopefully she'll be ready for the clay season
