What a strange draw for Nastya!
In first round, she can pull this off against Martina Sucha. Martina is no slouch but Barbara Schett beat her at Hamburg and Nastya had beaten Barbara last Fall. Nastya will have to stay focused and not underestimate Martina.
Second round...ugh....Sandrine Testud. Sandrine will be very tough but if Nastya can wear her out by running her all over the court like she did Venus, she will win this. I do worry about this matchup though.
If Nastya gets by Sandrine, her third round matchup could be Elena Dementieva, her fellow Russian, and I'm sure this match will have different loyalties among the fans. Don't know about their head-to-heads but Elena may win this. Nastya has to be very consistent.
Elena not winning over Barbara Rittner would also be a big factor. With Barbara in good form, she will give Nastya a very, very tough match. Don't know the extent of her injury but she had to pull out of doubles before the Schett/Hingis match.
Marlene Weingartner or the qualifier (wish I knew already who this will be) will be a tough match against Nastya but I don't think Marlene will get past Elena D. or Barb R. IF she does, Nastya will win.
Will see how all this goes to comment about the rest of the tourney.
