Good try Anastasia. I thought you were going to turn it around in the second set after seeing you tie Jen. You kicked butt all week to get this far.

Davenport, Capriati, Molik, Golovin, Seles, Clijsters, Myskina, Dementieva, Groenefeld, Frazier, Sprem, Hantuchova, Peschke, Dulko, Ivanovic, Smashnova, Likhovtseva, Vaidisova, Zvonereva, Schiavone, Pennetta

Unhappy :(

Poor Natsya

Well, at least she fought at the end. Unfortunately I couldn't watch the match but I'm glad she hang in the last set.

Nice try Natsya, better luck next time.

*top 20 getting closer*

All the best to Anastasia Myskina, Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova!
Watch out: Myriam Casanova, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova!

When I saw the score was 0-6, 0-3 , I was really cringing!! Would Nastya never win a single game??

But somehow, she suddenly recovered in an admirable way to make it tough for Jen to the very end.

This was another good learning experience for Stassy, because now she can see exactly how a champion reacts to being pushed to three sets by an upstart -- by coming out firing on all cylinders from the first minute, the next time they meet. Anastasia must have been wondering what hit her!
But she hung in there and started to make inroads .... too late, this time, unfortunately!
But it all goes into the experience-bank -- you will see, all this will all pay off before too long. You can bank on it.

Thanks Janie. You would make a good psychiatrist. Needed a pick-me-up. I came in from laying out in the sun and it was 6-0 3-1. It hadn't started when I went out and then came in not too much later and saw those scores.
Like you say, I believe she will learn from this. She almost pulled off a three setter.

Davenport, Capriati, Molik, Golovin, Seles, Clijsters, Myskina, Dementieva, Groenefeld, Frazier, Sprem, Hantuchova, Peschke, Dulko, Ivanovic, Smashnova, Likhovtseva, Vaidisova, Zvonereva, Schiavone, Pennetta

Nastya just needed to win a game earlier on as she's very streaky.
Almost got it to level terms but she'll learn from this.

Best luck to her in FED CUP

Good luck to my favs

Nice to see JON WERTHEIM mentioning our Anastasia in his column at cnnsi.com again this week -- she's his pick for the best of the Russian ladies:

That was great. Glad she is getting more exposure.

And they had Iva Majoli at 5'11". Is 5'9" according to WTA Guide.

The article:
We hear about all the Russian women in the top 100. Who do you think has the real stuff to be a champion?
—T.J., New York

Honestly, I'm not sure any have real "champion" potential. Still, the vote here goes to Anastasia Myskina. Lots of natural talent, she plays with flair, and she's a little nuts on the court, which, of course, we mean in the best way possible. Coming off an injury, she seems to be getting her groove back as well. Anna Kournikova is in a bad way, having lost her fifth straight match last week, none to a top-20 opponent. Elena Dementieva gave Venus a good match in Key Biscayne, but like the Karma Chameleon of song, she tends to come and go, come and go. Elena Bovina is falling like AOL's stock price. Tatiana Panova is easy to root for, but any player who's a bad haircut away from standing under 5-foot tall is going to have to fight for every win.

Cool!

All the best to Anastasia Myskina, Elena Bovina and Svetlana Kuznetsova!
Watch out: Myriam Casanova, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova!

Thanks, CB!

I guess I should have just copied it here, but I was a little concerned that fans of the other Russians mentioned might be offended, though actually, Jon says the worst thing about Elena B, and HER biggest fan here (along with Eggy, of course!) is ME. And of course, sad to say, Jon is kind of right about her.

Right now, Myskina is the best of the Russian ladies! It's possible she will be the #1 ranked Russian female tennis player by the end of the year.

But on the horizon are Maria Sharapova and Dinara Safina. These 2 girls will blow away the WTA Russian players in a couple of years. Take it to the bank!
