A premier event is being played this week in Sydney. In the last test before Australian Open only 4 girl are left in the draw. Chakvetadze, Hercog and Harkleroad will have to find a way to overcome Mirjana Lucic if the wanna be the one that's gonna hold the trophy on the end of the week in Sydney Olympic park. 28 y.o. Croatian it the number one seed in New South Wales and is yet to lose a set in the tournament. In the first round she had easy job against newcomer from Czech republic, Petra Kvitova. Mirjana defeated her in less than and hour, 6-3 6-2. After the match she was short:
Having a bye in first round always helps cause you can come to the tournament later then other players and you can dedicade more time to training so it's always good to be seeded. Kvitova is talented, I'm sure she's gonna be the next big girl from Czech Republic.
In QF Lucic faced a realy challenge, experienced Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova. Mirjana needed two tie breakers to get the win, it was anything but easy.
I agree that it was anything but easy. I had some luck to beat hear, net helping etc. But I feel good, I have worked hard in Brisbane last week and here also, as well as in the off season so thing are coming together a bit. Two semifinals(for now) are anything but bad start in the season.
In tonight's SF Mirjana Lucic will face American Ashley Harkleroad.
Robin Soderling from Sweden is back on track. In Sydney he after long time looks like the player who already was in Grand Slam semi final and some ATP 1000 finals. In the first three matches in Down Under he has three wins, anything but bad.
-Definetely a really good start into the season. In Quatar I haven't had the right feeling but now in Sydney everything's working well, really well.
In first round he defeated Dmitry Tursunov 7-6 7-6, in second Tomas Berdych 6-4 6-4 and in today's quaterfinals he overpowered Feliciano Lopez 16-14 in third set's tie breaker. This was a tough mach. Feliciano was playing so good, I mean he had 6 match points. It one of those matches when you feel sad for beating other player because you both deserved in a way to win. But it was close, I had more luck this time I guess. There were many sittuations like this when I had no luck so I guess thing are coming back at me now.
Despite being a well known name and a former TOP10 player Soderling has never won an ATP Tournament. Is Sydney a historical moment? I hope so. I'm gonna do everything to make it this time. I have a good chance, but still to matches to win and the first one against Andy, (Roddick) world number one.
In the other semi final Nieminem will play against Roger Federer.
