Mashona Washington reacts after defeating Julie Ditty in the first round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
American, Mashona Washington may be the tour's most overlooked player, but yesterday she proved that even though you may not know too much about her, you soon will. Washington prevailed in a triple set match against countrywoman, Julie Ditty; 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. The match lasted an hour and 47 minutes.
"I'm very happy that I won in this perticular tournament. It's a tier 1 so it's got lots more points to be rewarded and since I didn't defend my points last week, I'm hoping to make up for them this week."
Even though her win/loss record may not look to pretty, Washington reached her first career final in Eastbourne earlier this year on grass and is now set to try and reach the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup. First she must take on a tough bid from Russian, Anna Chakvetadze who recieved a walkover win against second-seed, Ashley Harkleroad, due to Harkleroad having an extreme case of explosive diarrhea.
"I'm not too worried about my match today. I'm just going to out there and play my best tennis and hope it's enough. I've been trying really hard all year and my game really hasn't come together. I'm going to try and turn things around here in Montreal."
Mauresmo isn't anyone to talk about doubles being for rubbish players, she's top ranked in doubles. So does that make her the crappiest player on tour?
I was just going by your logic. You're the one who said doubles is for rubbish players yet your the top ranked doubles player. How do you explain that?
I know how good Amelie is, but I was just going off of what you gave me.
Mashona will peak soon, it's just a matter of when.
Amelie Mauresmo(5) vs. Ana Ivanovic

I don't do picture hunts, you people get WTA profile pics, this is why I don't run games
Round of 16
Amelie Mauresmo(5) def. Ana Ivanovic 7-6(6) 7-6(6)

Ana put up a great fight, but she just didn't have enough in the tank to take out the Wimbledon Champion, she came out firing but came up shorter than Roger Federer in a romantic moment with Mirka, and Amelie moves on :yeah: Ana
