Cold Mountain

If you guys haven't seen it, you really should. It was an amazing film. The actors did an incredible job. I've got to say that Renee Zellweger was absolutely amazing in that movie. She really stole all the scenes she was in. I was just amazed at how well she really stood out apart from the rest of the cast.

I might fall to sleep on something like this, but glad you liked it.

it was a love story but it also has a lot of underlying stories within it. it was a bit long (try 2 1/2 hours) and it wasn't as adventurous as LOTR:Return of the King, but it was a great film to watch. A lot of comedic relief from the aforementioned Zellweger and she has her own story weaved within the film as well. I just liked this movie anyhow.

Oh No, not another Cold Mountain thread! :retard:

I'm not wasting one red cent on this movie. Fake movie, fake actors, faking everything about the actual Civil War. I'll go to a reenactment around here in the spring and see unknowns do a better job at portraying the battles.

Besides who here actually thinks a film that wasn't shot in the US, about the South in the Civil war with it's two lead characters being an Aussie and an Englishman is actually going to be convincing? Yep, thought so, basically NOBODY!

I'm BACK & SINGLE. So lock up all the hotties!

Bacardi, did you see the movie? No, it seems like you didn't. So before you make any "convincing" judgements about it, know what you're actually talking about. You're a fool.

I don't have to see it to know it's garbage. I'm not a fool, if I were a fool I'd waste money to see this. How historically accurate can this be? It wasn't filmed in the South, no authentic battlefields, and your lead characters are a Brit and an Aussie. I've seen enough previews to hear those butchered Southern accents! I don't have to spend $5 to go and see it to know it's a pile of Oscar poo, that probably won't win any.
I have better things to waste my time with, Cold Mountain isn't one of them. I think a lot of people share a simliar opinion on this board when all we've done is hear about this piece of trash for a good 4 months!
I'd rather wait and see Alexander in Nov or Dec. At least it's going to be a little more accurate than this thing.

And for your information, I've never found Kidman or Law to be decent actors, if anything they are garbage. The only one from the previews that even looks like they give a damn for the Character is Renee.

Sam sucked away ANY interest I would have ever had in seeing this film. It's a shame, because I like Jude Law.

Do you even know anything about the novel/story?

It's NOT a civil war reenactment. It's a love story set on the backdrop of the civil war, and has commentaries about war (NOT just the civil war, but ALL wars in general). It has themes of love, loneliness, family, dependency and belonging to nature/places, and home.

You keep bringing up these civil war reenactments in your area. Who the fuck cares? They are more accurate than Gone with the Wind, but guess how many people were entertained by Gone with the Wind. And guess what Vivien Leigh was British, but she did a fine job acting Scarlett O'Hara.

I'm tired of you coming into every thread with your "oh I want to see genuine civil war re-enactments". Here's news for you, what you see there isn't REALLY the civil war, they're actors too. If you REALLY want to see some civil war action, you need to go back in time.

But if you are someone who appreciates good literature and good cinema, Cold Mountain is for you. If not, stay away.

I have not seen it yet but all the reviews I read said that Renee stole the movie and is the best bet for an Oscar. I hope she does win an Oscar, she deserved it more than Nicole Kidman last year. Although I thought Nicole deserved it for 'The Others' the year before, instead of Halle Berry.

I wonder whether the Macedonian soldiers in the Alexander movie will be depicted fighting almost naked, as they seem to have done historically.

Since I'm straight, I don't really care, but it'd be interesting if they stuck to historical realism to that extent.

Yes. Very interesting indeed. I would be facinated from a purely historical viewpoint only of course.
