Exclamation Herald Sun: Britney/Madonna Kiss Angers Stevie Nicks

I think this is from an Australian newspapers, but if I an wrong, please correct me:

Madonna-Britney kiss angers Stevie

By NUI TE KOHA
19sep03

STEVIE Nicks rates the notorious Madonna-Britney kiss as the most obnoxious television moment ever.

"First of all, Madonna is too old to be kissing someone who is 22," the Fleetwood Mac singer told the Herald Sun.
"And Britney should be smarter than that. Hopefully, she will figure a way out of this hole she has dug for herself."

Original rock chick Nicks, 55, said Spears and Christina Aguilera should wear more clothes and try writing decent songs.

"I personally have never been to a strip club, but I turn on MTV and see in every single video what it must be like to be at a strip club," Nicks said.

"I think the mystery is gone, and if you have no mystery, then you aren't even sexy.

"Real sexuality and sensuality is in the music, and all these girls, vis-a-vis, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and on and on, should go back to writing songs and start over because it won't last and they won't last.

"When they are 55, they won't be around and that's sad because I think a lot of those girls are very talented. But they are signing their own death warrants."

Nicks was appalled by Madonna's publicity stunt kiss with Spears at the recent MTV Awards.

"I thought it was the most obnoxious moment in television history," she said.

"Madonna will be fine. Madonna is Madonna. She does what she wants. She will get over this. But will Britney get over it? I don't know."

Nicks revealed Madonna asked Jennifer Lopez to be in the smoochy routine, but J.Lo told Madge to kiss something else.

Nicks is the ultimate rock survivor, weathering drug addictions, depression and a tumultuous relationship with Lindsey Buckingham.

Fleetwood Mac performs at Rod Laver Arena on February 23. Tickets go on sale on Monday.

Normally, I would just say that this is a woman who is jealous of two singers that are younger and more popular than her, but I think Stevie has a point here with Britney. It is obvious that she doesn't have the singing ability of Christina Aguilera or Jessica Simpson, but I didn't think she was that desperate to revive what can be best described as a stalled singing career to do what she did at the VMA's.

BTW, Stevie was on the money about the videos on MTV today.

yeah but she did a bunch of crazy stupid stuff so why shouldn't these kids mess up too? I mean I have a hard time listening to a former drugged out rummoured Wicca/Witch putting down someone elses behavior.

Stevie!

Britney: Needed the attention because Justin was getting too much attention for his work.

Madonna: Needed it because her album stunk, and writing Children's books doesn't give you anything.

Christina: Was probably just horny for Britney and Madonna.

I think Stevie is entitled to her opinion. Stevie never used her sexuality to get what she wanted. Stevie has earned a name for herself through hard work and determination in a male-controlled business. She did it the hard way, much like Sheryl Crow. If Stevie sounds bitter, I don't think that is the case at all. Stevie and Sheryl are examples of musicians using their talent as opposed to using their bodies to advance their careers.

Sheryl Crow once said (referring to Britney and Christina), "Once you've had a camera shoved up your pussy, where do you go from there?"

Talking

Fleetwood Mac - Gypsy
(written by: Stevie Nicks)

so i'm back to the velvet underground
back to the floor that i love
to a room with some lace and peper flowers
back to the gypsy...that i was...to the gypsy...that i was...

and it all comes down to you
well you know that it does, well...
lightning strikes...maybe once...maybe twice...
oh....and it lights up the night....
and you see your gypsy.......
you see your gypsy....

to the gypsy......
that remains.....
she faces freedom......
with a little fear.....
well i have no fear....
i have only love.....
and if i was a child....
and the child was enough.....
enough for me to love....
enough to love......

she is dancing away from you now
she was just a wish
she was just....a wish
and her memory is all that is left for you now
you see your gypsy.....
you see your gypsy.....

lightning strikes...
maybe once...maybe twice....
and it all comes down to you
oooooo......oh......well it all comes down to you....
lightning strikes...
maybe once....maybe twice....
oh.............
i still see your bright eyes......bright eyes...
and i've always loved you....
and it all comes down to you
it all comes down to you.....

*ahem* this is my fave Stevie Nicks song:

Sara

Written by stevie nicks.

Wait a minute baby...
Stay with me awhile
Said you'd give me light
But you never told be about the fire

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

And he was just like a great dark wing
Within the wings of a storm
I think i had met my match -- he was singing
And undoing the laces
Undoing the laces

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

Hold on
The night is coming and the starling flew for days
I'd stay home at night all the time
I'd go anywhere, anywhere
Ask me and i'm there because i care

Sara, you're the poet in my heart
Never change, never stop
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter what for
When you build your house
I'll come by

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it's gone
It doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home

All i ever wanted
Was to know that you were dreaming
(there's a heartbeat
And it never really died)

Who the hell cares about Stevie Nicks? She is about as relevant as 8-track.

And Stevie's contemporary Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders once told a seminar for wannabe female rockers not to show too much skin ...because you're saying "fuck you", not "fuck me".

oh and btw, yes it's an Aussie paper. I think it was Saturday's Herald Sun. (Coz I was reading it at work and I saw the article - didn't actually read it though, just and read something worthwhile).

Love Stevie, love Sheryl.

I think Christina has a future as a serious musician, once she's done with these wild and crazy 20 something years. Britney, on the other hand, will fade into oblivion. She has no talent whatsoever.

Go STEVIE!!! She is right on the money.

Keith Your post was right on the money also If anyone should be giving out advice on career longevity, it's Stevie Nicks. She's been famous for almost 30 years, and is still recording hit albums, both solo and with Fleetwood Mac.
