Unhappy I'm stunned.

I just lost 0-6 1-6 to a 12 year old newcomer in the 1st round of my hometown tournament. My entire family and friends were there. I'm so embarassed and am sure those players who secretly dislike me are celebrating. I'm sorry.I've been sitting infront of the monitor for 3 hours and I still feel sad, humiliated, angry,...

It's your first tournament? You played bad?

Inspiration is for amateurs

Cheer up. When Jim Courier was 13, 11 y.o. Monica kicked his ass in practice! (OMG, this could be the first time a thread that started in Non-Tennis gets moved TO GM)!

Was this kid physically mature or something? How old are YOU? Most adults can thump a 12-year-old, unless they are prodigious talents who are physically more mature than their age, or have better hand-eye co-ordination than most people, full stop. Don't feel ashamed. Think of it this way - he is the FREAK, not you.

Did he play good, or did you play bad? I wouldn't be embarrassed if he was the next Agassi or something.

Good Luck Radwanska Sisters!

A day has passed now and I'm feeling a lot better. Thanks.

He actually played really well. Apparently, he's not 12 but 14 but is of small stature compared to me. The loss was harder to swallow because I was the 8th seed. I gave away the first set intentionally after trailing 0-4. I don't know what happened. My serve sucked big time and the crowd was beginning to gather around us so I became more nervous. It was my first time to lose this badly. But he did play really well. Well enough to beat me at that day.

Now, my concern is that I might repeat that kind of performance again.

its not too bad. i lost a set to an 10 year old a couple months ago. i was actually being kind. i was up 4-0 and i though, awww, poor kid, i'll let him win a couple games. next thing i knew he was kicking my ass so hard!he led 5-2 in the 2nd but i pulled it out 4-6 7-5 6-0.AN EMBARRASSING scoreline considering the fact that i'm 20 and he's 10. but the lesson learnt is that u shoudl never give chances.

still 6-1 6-0 is pretty bad.especially when you have your family around!

never let your opponent back in the match! as soon as they're down, put your foot on their throat, and finish it. no mercy!!

Don't worry at all. I think by just looking at the range of different players on tour these days, clearly age doesn't matter.

So you probably just had a bad day Don't fret over it.

don't worry!! This year I've been beaten in the 1st round of my club-tournament 6-0 6-2 by a 12 years old boy!!

I was like "ok, he won't be able to handle my pace" hehe, he was using my pace really well and he was able to find really good angles!! But what can I do against someone who plays 2 tournaments a week? He's training everyday, plays 2 tournaments and in each tournament, he's playing in the junior draw and in the men's draw!! There was actually nothing to do! He was too good! but i was sucking big time by then too

lol at come on kim!i know, dont u just HATE IT when someone uses your bread and butter shots against you?ugh!they piss me off!like this girl i had to play, poh yin i think that was her anem...anyway, she looked really unfit, so i was like ok. just stay at the net and hit the angles. unfortunately that bitch lobbed me to death cuz he shots had so much spin i could only push it back tp her instead of going for the angle.i came out feeling like the unfit one. lost the match 6-3 6-4 or something like that(ok ok!it was 6-3 6-2). why didnt i just stick to the baseline when i found out my net game wasnt working?i did!but stupid ho kept dropshotting me and hitting so many low short balls, forcing me to the net. she made my best shot, my volleys, become my enemy.
