Virus problems...help please

In the aftermath of that Blaster virus thing, my paranoid gene is running kinda high...

Yesterday, a message came up saying that 'Comload' had been detected on my PC and to click OK to be taken to some site that would get rid of it...

Reading up on comload makes it sound worrying...

But what do you think? Might the message have been for real? Or just another con itself? I always fall for such things or at least start fretting about them...

What do you people, who know loads more about PC's than I do, think is the more likely answer?

Help!

Is there a quick and easy way of knowing if I do have 'comload'?

comload is not a virus, it's an ActiveX control placed on web sites to load and run executable files, notably premium-rate diallers

Download Ad-aware 6... it will remove it

Ad aware 6 is quite a poor program and I would not rely on it to find ALL spyware on your computer.

I use a program called spybot, which found 42 instances of spyware that ad-aware failed to find when I ran it straight after running Ad-aware. Also it may be worthwhile checking your firewall settings to make sure they are at a level that is sutiable for you (medium should be anyones minimum in MHO)

Thanks for the replies...

What exactly does this thing do then? In simple terms? Its all well above my head... Goodness knows what ActiveX is...

Is there a simple way to search for a file that shows it is on my PC?

Full Name:

Manual removal:
Open the registry (Start->Run->regedit) and remove the following keys:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Comload.loader
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Comload.loader.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Comload.loader2
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Comload.loader2.1
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dctl
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E1089BC-1AE8-4685-8D77-6721E5C318A8}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{AD7FAFB0-16D6-40C3-AF27-585D6E6453FD}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{266F948A-3DEE-4270-8F55-E79ACCD569FA}
Then open the System folder (inside the Windows folder, named 'System32' under Windows XP/2000/NT or just 'System' under Windows Me/98/95), and delete the file 'comload.dll'.
