Last Comic Standing

Anyone watching this show. It's probably the only "reality" show that I've actually stuck with every week.

I thought Dave Mordel and Dat Phan were the two most talented comics in the group so I thought it was too bad that Dave had to go early.

I'm trying to figure out what all the comics have against Dat Phan. Sure, his little spiels can get a bit annoying, but they all seem to agree that he's the nicest guy in the house.

Dat's a one trick pony. He is just doing up the stereotype of Vietnamese people. Everytime he branches out he falls on his face. Seems like a nice guy but not really that funny.

I like Dat a lot but since I've been watching the show, he only goes back on his heritage. He has nothing else to go on it seems.

Richie seems to use his weight a lot but he also goes into other things.

Dat has been my favorite until tonight.

Richie May was hillarious. I laughed out loud during his whole routine. He won me over tonight and I think he will win.

Actually, it is RALPHIE May

The key for him is that he showed emotion. The rest of them were for the most part drones. That attack can work depending on the material but these guys just don't have it (see Vos, Rich). The worst though was Tess, she just wasn't funny at all. She just fit into the generic stereotype of what she should be. Try something different.

It's never really bothered me that Dat's routines are centered around his family and his experiences as an Asian. To me, all that matters is that the comic is funny and can perform for an audience. After all, a lot of famous comics have had their schtick, especially in the beginning of their career: Jim Carrey has had his face and body contortions, Robin Williams has had his madman on stage thing, Jeff Fox has had all his redneck jokes, Bret Butler had her drunken trailer trash schtick.

Compared to the other comics, Dave Mordel had his crotchety Minnesotan, Tess has her big girl schtick, Corey Kahaney is all about her family, Ralphie May has the fat jokes. It makes sense to me, after all, most comics are going to derive their jokes from their own life.

As I wrote before though, it's too bad Dave didn't make it to the final. I thought he was a lot better than some of the other finalists.

I wish there were either more rounds to the final or that the segments were longer though. I'd like to see the comics get an opportunity to really show their stuff.
