What did/do you want to be when you grow up?

I'm going through an interesting phase in my life right now. I just finished my first year at university and everyone around me seems to want me to choose a profession or atleast something to aim for...well I'm pretty confused and am still figuring out what I want to be or what I'm good at doing...

well, I was just curious, for those of you who aren't in the workplace yet, what it is that you want to be and why? and for those who already work, did you end up getting the job you always wanted? or did you find something else which was better/worse?

I wanted to be a writer or a journalist...but that's hopeless already.

So this is love, Mmmmmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine
I'm all aglow, Mmmmmm
And now I know
The key to all heaven is mine
My heart has wings, Mmmmmm
And I can fly
I'll touch every star in the sky
So this is the miracle that I've been dreaming of
Mmmmmm
Mmmmmm
So this is love

A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep, in dreams you lose your heartaches, whatever you wish for, you keep

in my teen years i wanted to be a cricketer, i had serious goals of trying to get into my open state team within 2 years of leaving high school but in year 10 i got a shoulder injury and never fully recovered and i was an express bowler so i basically had no choice but to give that up. other than that i haven't really had anything i've wanted to be other than fantasy dreams like being a celeb. i did want to be a songwriter for a couple of years and i'm hoping to pursue that next year. i'll do some courses and see how other people do things and go from there. apart from that wanted to be a pro tennis player (i still do) but i only started tennis this year and i'm 18, i'm told i have talent but i am a bit old to develop all of it. they told me if i had started in high school then i could have been pro. my goal is to just playing some future events or something but it could take me awhile before i get there because i'm not doing tennis fulltime.

but you just finished 1st year uni, you shouldn't worry about a profession now. relax and have fun at uni because when you finish uni you're going to be working for like 30 or 40 years without many breaks to be able to just sit back relax and have fun. imo opinion trying to figure oout what you want to to makes it harder to decide. imo it just comes to you when your ready.

Go the aussies! stosur!!!
and good luck russians: dementieva, safina, kirilenko, sharapova, kuznetsova, bovina, zvonareva, dushevina.

also good luck to: azarenka, lucic, sprem, vakulenko, vaidisova, safarova, ivanovic, groenefeld, mirza, krajicek, kvitkova, larcher de brito, lisicki.

eh, I'll let you know when I figure it out.

I mean I'm only 33 still plenty of years to work it out.

People ask me why am I always taking classes and I tell them cause I know one day I am going to happen upon my "passion". I just haven't found it yet.

thanks, that's reassuring

It's quite interesting how some people have a sense of purpose from childhood while others just stumble upon their passion later in life.

a history teacher then journalist, then history reseach journalist

now I have to accept that my dream will probably never come true except when a miracle happens and suddenly I am cured

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
Through the desert of the truth
To the river so deep
We all end in the ocean
We all start in the streams
We're all carried along
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night
