No Mary, you're thinking of Beverley Craven.
Beverley Knight is the UK's premier funky soul diva. Her Prodigal Sista album is fantastic and I can't wait for the new one if it's going to be anything like the first single Get Up.

Beverley is so underrated. We have a UK gem in her and she gets very little attention. She was great on the MOBOs. One of the few people to get up there with a live band and cut it.

I saw Beverley Knight at the Mobos too, and was REALLY impressed - she's got a great voice, she's got huge stage presence and she's a true performer. Then I heard the song on the radio a couple of days later and was really disappointed - it sounded so much better live. Hmm. Definitely talented though.

Her lack of success is probably because it's very hard to market quality black RnB artists in the UK - particularly female ones.

The market is so much narrower in the UK than it would be for her in say, the US, but US is lot harder worker, and a helluva lot more financial investment.

I mean when you're up against dross like Gabrielle - who surely has no soul - it may be time to leave the country. She had some minor successes before Prodigal Sista, but the track has probably only being B or even C listed on radio 1, and probably B list on Radio 2 or something.

"Mentally prepare? Why? When you plan something it never works. It's simple: get in, drive car, see what happens."

It's hard to find people who have HEARD of Bev Knight, let alone listen to her!!!

"Get Up" was a great, innovative song that successfully managed to combine with RnB and Reggae. I thought it was very catchy but perhaps a bit 'out there' for mainstream crowds. However, "Shoulda Coulda Woulda" is probably the most mainstream thing she has ever done, and I could see it being her first top 10 hit! It's a lot more simple than "Get Up", mainly driven by a guitar and drum beat.. but I think that is what will be her success. I pre-ordered the album off hmv.co.uk and I can't wait to get it!

Here's sometyhing I found on the Domerecords site. EnjoyBEVERLEY KNIGHT has blazed a trail around the world for the new sound of UK R&B.

Her B-Funk debut album was described by Echoes magazine as "the best British soul album ever". Larry Flick of Billboard said: "This lady is on her way to becoming an international star".

Beverley was born and raised in Wolverhampton in the Midlands and began singing in school and church choirs. Demo tapes from songwriter Westley Jones - writer of her hit Moving On Up - brought her to the attention of Dome in late 1994.

Introduced by Dome to South London production trio 2B3, the pairing resulted in her debut single Flavour of the Old School taking the UK soul scene by storm and giving Beverley a Top 40 chart hit. The success spread internationally, giving her a hit in France and releases of her singles and albums in more than 20 countries.

From Australia to Brazil, from Denmark to the Philippines, there are Beverley Knight fans.

Other producers on the B-Funk album included the Ethnic Boyz, Dwayne and Colin Burke of Groove and a Quarter, the MINNX team of Tony Olabode and Victor Redwood-Sawyerr (also known as hip-hop act Blak Twang) and German duo Irmgard Klarmar and Felix Weber.

Beverley has released her second album, on the Parlophone Rhythm Series label. The album Prodigal Sista includes the singles Made it Back, Rewind and Greatest Day.

Singles:
