Wink Americans do you have a fake posh accent like Madonna?

there's an american girl at uni and we enjoy winding her up by speaking in madonna's fake posh accent. she said there were loads of americans that spoke like madonna but i find that hard to believe cos no one in the american tv programmes that we get here speak like madonna. i suppose living in london and being married to a brit will influence your accent a bit but madonna's accent sounds completely forced.

....This is fucked up, fucked up....

This is your blind spot, blind spot.
It should be obvious, but it's not.

You just crush yourself and walk away
I don't care what the future holds
Cause I'm right here in your arms today
With your fingers you can touch me

I'll be your black swan, black swan
I'm for spare parts, broken up.

I was hoping this thread would just die. Not everyone in America talks the same - She was born in Michigan.

"cos no one in the american tv programmes that we get here speak like madonna." - Because there is only 1 Madonna!! Rock on!!!

Madonna has a posh accent?

She's sleeping with Guy Ritchie, she can speak whoever she wants too. I guess it's just lucky that she's even able to open her mouth.

Madonna does seem to have a forced accent of some sort, that doesn't seem to match where she is from in the US. Surely you've all noticed?

I can honestly say i've never noticed it...i guess cause its never been that big a whoop to me...i just admire that she can talk without so many "you knows" and 'ums' and things like that...they only thing i notice about her when speaking is that she sounds so much better than she did years ago when she sounded so screachy

Oprah Winfrey sometimes slips into British-accent mode when she's conducting serious interviews on her show. I guess it's her way of annunciating her words. When Oprah does it, it comes across as natural though. Madonna's is so obvious and fake. Why does she do it? When Madonna first released her music in 1983 or 84, she spoke in a "Nu Yawk" accent. She's from Detroit, no? It seems like it's just Madonna's way of adapting to her surroundings.
