Mariah Carey's Career Hits All New Low

Her record company is rereleasing "Charmbracelet" in an attempt to recoup some money on the millions that they spent to lure her to their label. Since it bombed pretty badly and failed to produce a hit single, they're going to add four new tracks including "I know what you want" her "duet" (even though she barely does anything) with Busta Rhymes which is the closest thing she's had to a hit since "Heartbreaker" all way back four years back. Methinks this latest effort to salvage her career will go about as well as the last 9461360.

Oh, I forgot to add. She's even "revamping" her tour dates, switching them to "more intimate" venues. Which means she can't sell out large arenas anymore, so she's gotta go back to the clubs unless she wants to play to quarter-full arenas.

charmbracelet went platinum and I don't call that a failure. when MCA rereleased Mary J. Blige's 'No More Drama' in Jan. 2001, 4 months after the original LP dropped, there was no condemnation.

Both the singles bombed. The first one hit #81, the second one didn't even chart. They spent a tremendous amount of money on Mariah, and platinum is not nearly good enough, especially when you consider how soft her tour sales have been. They would not be re-releasing the album if they didn't consider it a bomb.

And it's worth noting that having "I know what you want" on his CD hasn't boosted Busta Rhymes' sales much. So I'm not sure what they expect it to do for mariah.

I love that song.

But the rest of Mariah's stuff is pretty yuck, though.

Tell me, why did MCA rerelease mary's album? I'm not aware of the circumstances around it. As I recall, that disk did pretty well, didn't it?

because they wanted more money, why else do record companies do such things?

they added some more songs like 'Rainy Dayz' with Ja Rule that didn't make the original.

I liked charmbracelet, a lot. my favorite album is still 'butterfly'. I think her problem is is that she's relying on that whispery voice instead of her strong, regular singing voice. That vocal cord surgery really messed with her range. *sigh*

do you know why her singles did so poorly?because Billboard is based mostly on airpley nowadays, and she's never been too popular with dj's.Through the rain was #1 on the sales list for a week or 2,but the sales market is pretty much no-existent in the US.If we want to talk about new low in music in the States, just listen to some of the last #1's:Ja rule,Ashanti,50 cent,Nickelcrap,J HO,etc.

I do agree that changing those venues is caused by not enough interest.

Mariah sell large areas as she's doing a concert the 4th November in Paris-Bercy. I'll be there
"Charmbracelet" is appreciated, but i agree with cariosity when you say that she should sing with her strong regular voice instead of her whispers and "high notes".
BTW? what's your favourite from "Charmbracelet"? Myself is "The one" or "Subtle invitation"

her singles sold so poorly cos she sucks. she whispers, her lyrics are crap, and her songs have HORRIBLE beats. shes old news and needs to learn this. she should have stopped after glitter... thrown in the towel... she is not the diva she used to be, or thinks she is.

and yes, ja rule, ashanti, j.lo... yada are crap cos they are just fabrications of their record companies. but, um, 50 cent?

the only good thing mariah has done in the past four years is this:

....This is fucked up, fucked up....

This is your blind spot, blind spot.
It should be obvious, but it's not.

You cannot kickstart a dead horse
You just crush yourself and walk away
I don't care what the future holds
Cause I'm right here in your arms today
With your fingers you can touch me

I'll be your black swan, black swan
I'm for spare parts, broken up.

Celine Dion's CD from last year was rereleased just before Xmas with a couple of extra songs on it. And her album had sold 3 million in the US. And lots more globally. It's a regular thing to rerelease CDs... to cash in on obsessive fans as well... who just HAVE to have every single album even if they have 95% of the songs.

I have Charmbracelet and I love it. I like Yours the best. And Bringin On The Heartbreak... she shoulda sang out more on that song and had less backup though.
