That figures, US & Russia trading rabbit punches after the Snowden fiasco. It's not even about gay people who are just pawns on the worldwide politics chess board

Re: Nick Symmonds, silver medallist in 800m, dedicates medal to gay people

Let' don't pretend that it's all dandy with US/Russian relationship. However they've gone from the Cold War street fighting to doing each other silly pranks in the XXI history. Whether it's Snowden or gay rights, it's all just a tool in the global politics and some people here really think it's that serious about gay rights etc. If Snowden was from some African country, they would have send him back in no time, but because he's an American the circus has arrived. Same with Symmonds, if these champs were held in some junkyard in Nairobi, no American would be saying anything about gay rights

Swedish athletes Emma Green-Tregaro and Moa Hjelmer both painted their fingernails in the colours of the rainbow flag for their competitions this morning.

Well the Daily News is hardly the world's most authoritative source. It looks like they've twisted his words slightly, although I'm not entirely sure he explicitly dedicated his medal to his gay and lesbian friends. Most of the quotes used after taken from comments he made just before he competed.

He also posted this on Twitter though.

Great of the Swedish girls to do that .

As for Nick, IDK. If there's even the slightest truth that he came out all guns blazing after the 800m and now he's backtracking and is now all zip-lipped I'm disappointed. It seems cowardly.

Already so much controversy, and the World Champs are just the warmup to the big Olympics stage .
