Anyone remember text adventure games? Anyone still play em?

I don't still play them...

But, there must have been thousands upon thousands of these games made, they were apparently the easiest game you could make at home. I have a few knocking round the house on tapes for the Commodore 64.

Basically, text adventure games were like those "Choose your own adventure" books, some were absolute dross (like those books), some were actually quite good. You basically had to make your way through the game by making decisions, simply by pressing "Y" or "N". Very primitive, but if it had a good storyline, quite compelling.

Most of the games were pure text, a few did have pictures to accompany them (I seem to remember one set in a nuclear reactor where there was a body on the floor in the first room).

We will never see the likes of such games again unfortunately, I was quite surprised the idea was never taken up for mobile phones (before mobile phones had games)
