Any Fluent Turkish Speakers Enter Here

merhaba,

I am writing my letter for medical school in Turkish, since I'm applying to one in Istanbul for Medical school and was wondering if someone can help me out on a few words.

1) Leadership
2) Friendship
3) Service

the phrase "Be a leader, Be a friend, be of service"

thank you!

Re: Any Fluent Turkish Speakers Enter Here

1) Leadership = Liderlik
2) Friendship = Arkadaşlık
3) Service = Hizmet

"Lider ol (Be a leader), Arkadaş ol (Be a friend), Yararlı/Faydalı ol (Be of service)"

'be of service' means being helpful/useful etc. right? So 'hizmet etmek' (to serve) isn't the best translation in this case. 'Yararlı' and 'faydalı' mean 'useful' and they both suit better IMO.

'Dostluk' is a much stronger bond than 'arkadaşlık'. People usually say that they have only a few 'dost's. Dost is a very close, loyal and usually old friend.
