Things will get better, but not tomorrow. There is a big excess of IT workforce offer over demand of IT job market. Mostly caused by insane US economic policy, exceesive import of cheap IT labor ( such as myself ) from mostly India, China and other countries. Just think about that , in 2001 the quote of temporary work permits was like 160000. And that's a lot. I think that by last year temporary workers probably accounted for 20-30% of all US IT personnel. Even if significant part of those immigrants were fake ITs. There were still getting here and looking for jobs, and taking those jobs. Now all those people have to go somewhere.
Now the bubble burst, and many of those people are losing their jobs. Of course quote for this year is much less, but overheating of IT job market in those years (1999-2001) will have a long term effect on industry.
