World's first 3D-printed gun fired in US

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22424315

The world's first gun made with 3D printer technology has been successfully fired in the US.

The controversial group who created the firearm plan to make the blueprints available online.

Anti-gun advocates have criticised the project and Europol, Europe's law enforcement agency, said it was closely monitoring the development.

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met./All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet - One perfect rose.
I knew the language of the floweret;/'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet/One perfect rose.
Why is it no one ever sent me yet/One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get/One perfect rose.

Re: World's first 3D-printed gun fired in US

The "gun" in question is single shot (no magazine), fires weak ammo, barrel is short & not rifled so accuracy is probably horrible. It's a neat project, but very ineffective weapon.

I'm amazed at the hysteria this has created. You can already build just as good gun in your home with normal everyday tools like carpet knife & electric drill. Just go buy lump of some durable plastic from nearest tool store and have a go at it.

Also even if you can print a gun, you can't print ammunition.

you can't ban everything, 3d printing needs to be available for the public

US government orders removal of Defcad 3D-gun designs

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22478310

The US government has demanded designs for a 3D-printed gun be taken offline.

The order to remove the blueprints for the plastic gun comes after they were downloaded more than 100,000 times.

The US State Department wrote to the gun's designer, Defense Distributed, suggesting publishing them online may breach arms-control regulations.

This is hilariously stupid, whole idea that that "gun" would create some sort of security problem is laughable.

Hey, there are instructions how to make a homemade revoler. Is that site going to be targeted too?

This is really scary...

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Yeah, imagine if only 1% of those who acquired the plans use them to massacre people! It would make 1000 massacres! Omg!

Seriously, any person who has access to ammunition probably also has access to a real gun which is much more lethal than 3d-printed gun.
