Help With Acne!!!

Okay...it's like this. I'm a guy who's goign through the whole teen-to-adult phase...and the worse part of it? You guessed it...acne . I've tried nearly every over the counter acne treatment available and now I'm getting sick of it. Sometimes my skin remains acne free for a while....and then...kaboom...I look like I starred in some horror movie. Do you people have any advice? Anyone else going through the same thing? Any advice would be good.

P.S. I do have oily skin which I wash all the time with...you guessed it...Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash...to no avail.

First thing I have to say is, poor u

I totally sympathise with ya as I used to have awful acne myself. It really got me down.

There is only one option if you have tried everything and that is to go to your doctor. First I tried something called Oxytetracyline (tablets), they were orange tablets that worked for a while then stopped working...

So then I moved on to Erythromycin (sp?), or something like that, little tablets with "E" on them... they worked but again only for about six months...

I then went to see a dermatologist and he diagnosed me with having extensive acne. He put me on a new drug called Roaccutane which is like a massive dose of Vitamin B, and I don't mean a supplement, it's a big dose. The drug was kinda on trial and I got £500 worth of the stuff for nothing on the NHS. It worked, but the side effects were quite bad... the first three months saw me with desert-like skin, seriously my skin has never been so dry. The first couple of weeks saw me with the worst acne I had ever had but the dermatologist said it was normal and would get worse before it gets better.

Other side effects included migraines, jaundice and mood swings.

But if you want to get rid of your acne, that's the way to do it, it is a last resort. I have no regrets going on it except teh fact my back is a bit dodgy for spots, the rest is pretty much ok and loads better than what it was, with very little scarring.

But yeah, see your doctor, get an appointment with a dermatologist and they can disgnose how bad your acne is and what treatment u need,

Hope all goes well

If you can afford a dermatologist, go and get medication. If not, take zinc, or fake an ear ache or bladder infection with a general practitioner. The antibiotics for those will clear your face up instantly.

I took Accutane and stopped a couple of months ago. I will say that after the 6 months on accutane it is IMPOSSIBLE to get another zit (you'd have to roll around in shit and not shower for 5 months for it to even start forming lol). However, the medicine is super hardcore so I would advise you to be careful with it. Some people can be on it, some can't. The first few weeks are pretty brutal. I had a cold sore with some funky crust on my lip that spread an inch past my lip and stayed there for a week. Your skin also gets really really dry and irritated too. Slowly it gets better though and the results are amazing. However, try other prescription stuff b4 going to that. I never had bad acne, but what I did have wouldn't fucking go away and I sympathize with how much it sucks.

One more thing..if you are depressed DO NOT go on accutane..there have been suicide cases linked with teens on the drug.

Awwh. Poor you. I think a visit to the dermatologist is a step in the right direction. You might want to try the antibiotic doxycycline. My friends had awful acne and it cleared up pretty well. I'll find out from Mom for ya k?

Also take a lot of cod liver oil tablets. I wonder if that interacts with the antibiotic though?

I'm so happy because today I found my friends, inside my head.

I'm so ugly but thats ok 'cause so are you.

i remember i had bad case of zits, wasn't acne, but i just didn't touch one zit, i was suprised i could resist the temptation for a long time, and it was gone...so whatever u do don't touch anything, i know it is hard, but that is the only way u can battle it not to get worse... go see a dermetologist(sp?) is u find the time...the sooner the better, becuase once u have taken action u will feel better right off the bat...
good luck.

start from the inside and work your way out.

drink lots of water... stay away from sugar... it keeps the skin glowing.
try to stay free of stress [so hard, i know]

don't do a product overload either. dont pick... itll only make it worse.

cant recommend any products cos i dont know whats available to you out there.

but if you want the redness to go away for awhile use eye drops that take away redness... if its bumpy you can take a spoon... crush up advil [or any other anti-inflammatory] and put some eye drops on there... freeze it.
next morning take it out and apply it the the problem area for like 10-15 minutes... it should reduce swelling and take the redness away... by a lot.

I was on Roaccutane too and it worked (yes, the first couple of months my skin was awful but then it was better than ever); now, 2 years later it's not as good anymore (but I don't use anything special), but it's much better than before. So I would recomend using it - but be careful with the doses, It's really strong. I didn't have the worse case of acne so I thought going to the doctor is stupid (just for some zits), but I've tryed EVERYTHING before (creams, lotions, diet, herbal stuff) - so go to the doctor as soon as possible. I know how much it bothered me, so I hope you get better.
