Sat in the cold yesterday and watched Hose-head Valverde blow another one. NID.

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread (WBC, MLB)

Cole Hamels is now 1-5, and might sue his Phillies teammates for lack of (offensive) support, as in a recent 2-0 loss. Expect him and his (7 year, $153M thru 2018) contract 2B traded B4 the end of the season, ala future Bosox 2x WS winner Curt Schilling, with the Phillies getting rings afterwards. (Manager Charlie Manuel probably should have retired a couple of years ago).

Re: 2013 Baseball Thread (WBC, MLB)

Listening to sports talk radio yesterday...they're thinking the Astros have a chance at being all-time worst. Obviously that refers to the '62 Mets, who were 40-120, but I think the '03 Tigers should share that crown...43-119 and won something like 5 of their last 6 just to accomplish that.

Looking at the Astros' roster, it's obvious they are deplorable and could continue to get worse if any of their decent players (they only have 1 or 2) get traded to a contender before the deadline for more minor leaguers. Bad teams usually get worse as the season wears on for that reason and more. Should be interesting.

MLB has long needed revenue sharing, ala the NFL. The Expo's used to develop all kinds of talent, which Ted Turner promptly swiped for the Braves. (And the Pirates' roster also used 2B raided like crazy, ala Sid Bream to Atlanta, and the home run err, steroids king to SF).

But Houston is a great baseball market and has always managed to find good talent. I don't think revenue is a problem

I've always liked the Astros. Nolan Ryan is my favorite pitcher of all time. I'm not happy to see them in dire straits...

I am happy that they're in the AL now for the selfish reason that, in their current state, they'll add some easy wins for the Tigers. They are 6-0 against Houston now.

Yes, but they had a good team and dumped a lot of payroll. I think they wanted to re jig for the move to the AL.
I like the rivalry with the Astros and Rangers. Dallas and Houston are always competing in so many ways
