Because they use horses, AKA living beings Otherwise, horses would be considered as tools, like javelin or discus

Re: Wrestling cut from 2020 Olympics program

About equestrian. Having it in OG raises the question about why motorsports couldn't be included in Olympics. IOC have said motorsports can't be in Olympics because competitiors physics aren't the deciding factor there. Well, that can be said about equestrian, too. Actually, a racing driver must be very fit.

With single-spec cars, race would be about driver's skills, not about who has the best equipment. Not that I'd really want to have motorsports in Olympics. A racing circuit would be too expensive to build for the Olympics. (Btw. Rio Olympic village will be built at the site of former Jacarepagua F1 circuit.) Karting would be the only suitable motorsport for Olympics. And for the big names of motorsport, Olympics would be only an exho, if they even raced there.

Unlike a car a horse has a mind of its own. Therefore they aren't at all comparable. In terms of "equipment" a horse is by far the most difficult for a participant to deal with because it has a brain.

Go-karts and we could get all the top drivers to sit in them and go around a mini circuit like the BMX

Maybe if Baku gets to host OG 2020 they can do something about it

Such a shame, its an authentic Olympic sport it does not deserve to be dumped like this because of rugby and golf Now countries who usually gets bunch of medals will just get couple of more in rugby/golf and those smaller countries will be robbed a chance to win a medal since wrestling is many countries' only decent chance to grab a medal. Just pathetic. Damn money. West will get what they wanted easily again

You think horse is enjoying being forced to obey his master?! You think horse decided that it would be great to spend most of life doing dressage?!

he/she is just saying that horse is more difficult to control than inanimate objects like car.

Nudging and feeling the horse could be a pretty delicate skill, imo

Re: Wrestling cut from 2020 Olympics program

This is ridiculous I don't watch wrestling but it's one of the Olympics' original sports and should never even be in danger of being removed in the first place. What are those crackheads in the IOC thinking?

And golf has no business being in the Olympics!

Kuznetsova Serena Na Kvitova

Djokovic Wawrinka Gasquet del Potro

Also good luck to Jankovic, Vesnina, Stosur, Pennetta, Kerber and Halep

while rugby will give countries like uk and australia another chance to win more medals some small countries which until now had no chance to win a medal might start to win medals. i mean primarily countries like fiji and samoa. if they keep up their performances like in other tournaments they will start winning medals regularly.

golf on the other hand should not be at the olympics. however, wrestling was not dumped because of rugby or golf, these sports repleaced baseball and softball.

Re: Wrestling cut from 2020 Olympics program

Regards rugby the UK/Australia and the likes will now put more funding in 7s whereas they'd focused on Union before that, so in Rio the pacific states may have success but in the long run I can't see them matching the big rugby countries (All Western of course ).

Re: Wrestling cut from 2020 Olympics program

tangential story that wasn't discussed here...

IOC bans India from Olympics

The IOC suspended India's national Olympic committee on Tuesday because of government interference in its election process, a major embarrassment for the world's second most populous nation.

After months of warnings, the IOC executive board imposed the sanction when the Indian Olympic Association failed to comply with the world body's demands for holding independent elections.

Under the suspension, the Indian body will stop receiving IOC funding and its officials will be banned from attending Olympic meetings and events. India's athletes will be barred from competing in Olympic events under their national flag, although the IOC could allow them to do so under the Olympic flag.
----

now that's a country with corrupt olympics

the IOC has been putting its foot down the last couple of months.

So there will be no Indian team in Sochi then, just people competing under the IOC flag?
