Canadian Supreme Court tells Harvard University live beings can't be patented here
In a 5-4 decision, the Canadian Supreme Court has upheld a Patent Office ruling that Harvard University can not patent a genetically modified mouse. Harvard University has been fighting the ruling through the courts but the matter is now decided. The Supreme Court has ruled living beings can't be patented in Canada.
The U.S., Japan, and much of Europe have already allowed Harvard University a patent.
