Soccer - where the top men can be smaller than the top women

2012 World Player of the Year

Men - Lionel Messi (5'7" 148 lbs)

Women - Abby Wambach (5'11" 179 lbs)

Congrats to both excellent footballers.

Scully "No! You're bat-crap crazy."

Re: Soccer - where the top men can be smaller than the top women

Messi is not even 5'7'', he looks smaller

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Messi is so good. I think he's maybe not human.

Well done to them both.

You also couldn't find two players with more polar opposite approaches to the game, but both are very effective.

I don't follow women's soccer real closely, but I do love me some Abby. And Messi, of course.

I have no problem with Abby, and it has nothing to do with my nationality, but Christine Sinclair should have won the women's.

She is also bigger than Messi.

Canada's Christine Sinclair (5'10", 165 lbs) is defo # 1 lady soccer player in the world.

Also consider slalom skiing where ladys champ Lindsey Vonn (5'10", 170 lbs) towers over 2012 mens champ Marcel Hirscher (5'8", 160 lbs).

Smaller guys have a tendency to exaggerate their height or lack of it. Being somewhere between 5'6" and 5'7" myself, I know from personal experience. Guys my height routinely say they are 5'8" or taller and, I guess, we can all understand why.

Re: Soccer - where the top men can be smaller than the top women

Nah, everyone exaggerates their height, or mostly everyone. I always add 1 cm (0.5 inch) to my height (181 cm I say I'm 182 ) because no one can tell a 1 cm difference, 2 cm maybe but not 1
