An impatient driver has been caught on camera abusing a blind man he thought was taking too long to cross a road in Newcastle.
Footage obtained exclusively by Nine News shows the driver in an heated altercation with the man, his carer and a group of bystanders who rushed to help.
The road rage incident occurred while the blind man was visiting a suburb near Newcastle with his sister-in-law, who cares for him, and his brother.
Unfamiliar with the street, the man's guide dog Hilton veered off the crosswalk prompting the driver to begin yelling at him.
But it didn't stop there - the driver then pulled over and confronted the pedestrian and his companions.
Footage shows the man yelling at the group before pushing the blind man's carer and knocking her to the ground.
Bystanders watching the disturbing scene then quickly step in to help.
Witness James Fry told Nine News he was shocked by what happened.
"I couldn't believe that’s someone could attack someone so defenseless," Mr Fry said.
The blind man said it "makes me feel ashamed that people are like that."
The incident was reported to police who are now investigating.
I think that moron deserves some jail time. It will give him some time to think about his actions and change his behaviors.
