stratos skydive

no interest for this event here?

felix baumgartner jumped from the edge of space, from 39 kms, reached around 1100 kmph in free fall and landed safely in the desert. it looked insane. would you dare?

No way in hell

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: stratos skydive

Really awesome! Here it was broadcasted live in news channel. I am amazed, such a great achievement and 2 more kilometres than it was planned. Plus it was a bit of a drama - first - technical issues, then - freefalling without control for the first few moments.

Congrats Felix.

that's not so fascinating, we even had passanger planes reaching them.

the really fascinating thing is how you would feel looking at the earth below right before the jump. damn!

Re: stratos skydive

Awesome!

One nitpick though: they claimed he broke the altitude record: however, FAI only accepts altitude records where takeoff and landing are done with the same craft. This means that Baumgartners' altitude record will NOT be accepted, as he jumped out of the craft, and that old US Navy ballooners record will stay in the books. There was one guy who got to about 37 kilometres in 1966, but his record was also not accepted as he descended in his capsule.

For your dolly Polly sleep has flown
Don't dare let her tremble alone
For the witcher, heartless, cold
Paid in coin of gold
He comes he'll go leave naught behind
But heartache and woe
Deep, deep woe
