How do you pronounce "often"?

Both ways are correct but I learned to say it with the T silent. The other way kind of sounds strange to me.

Vote!

Re: How do you pronounce "often"?

Shouldn't there be a poll?

I am using "t", but it's very silent. It's almost impossible to describe how I pronounce it

EDIT: oh, and we have a poll

They're both correct. I pronounce it offen though.

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: How do you pronounce "often"?

I have never heard of OFFTEN with a audible "T" in my social circle (mostly guys speaking RP). It always OFFEN or probably T unaudibly. Is this chav speak?

I think I say it differently at different times.

I do the same with "address" (noun).

Names are sometimes a different kettle of fish.

Would anyone think Le-a is pronounced "Ledasha" (if such a person actuall exists )?
