Re: The Cricket thread

Cheerleaders in IPL got nothing to do with betting and spot-fixing (NOT match) scandals. Very stupid call. It's a clear case of system compromise in favor of greed. Say, some 'stars' who own (share) IPL teams are big crooks. Few months ago, one 'star' team was penalized about $18 million for involving in money laundering activities. But few stars have escaped. They apply different yard sticks be it for charging or arrests. This case clearly reflects how this present Govt. functions. Lost its credibility a few years ago when 2G scam shocked the nation.

So nothing new is happening inside the latest fixing fiasco. A few businessmen and board members got colluded too. I wish people focus less on IPL. How to bring our Olympic Association back on track should be the topmost Govt. priority. Well, hardly anyone cares from the bottom of the hearts.

Answer is, no preference in this matter because I'm neither a fan of cricket nor used to go gaga over cheerleaders in the United States.

Re: The Cricket thread

I like the pageantry & beauty they add to the atmosphere. As for the politics of game fixing, that is awful sad. I had not been aware of how bad it was. Hopefully, this will be properly remedied.

Since you mentioned, I've done a little excursion. I think you were correct

However, I found many inappropriate snaps to the sport itself; more like porn-grade so can't share a few here.

This will be very hard to change unless people go for big changes in the political model itself. I don't believe in any 'leading' parties as none got what it takes or candidates to lead this nation sincerely. Frankly, democracy has become a big joke.

Fundamental problem: many people accept the current way of life without complaining, let alone protesting or fighting against it. Very few like me who are not afraid of courts, law or police.

Many people (read as who profess/support corrupt practices/models) try to 'soften' me by saying I'm a 'foreign returned' or 'big business owner' or 'educated man' so I shouldn't say like that...blah blah.

I don't like people who are like this - unbecoming of human beings. Anywhere.

Re: The Cricket thread

india did not get her freedom in 1947......she gets her real freedom only when the mafia is kicked out of the country......capitalism needs to be wiped out from the world map as well......

as for ipl, i knew it was a big joke, any 20-20 for that matter......never liked the format and never supported it......i am enjoying the current champions trophy better than any 20-20 tournament in the last 5 years......

fixing and other problematic stuff is a result of BCCI and ICC trying to introduce and develop the "european club nature" in the sport of cricket for their greed......they made big sums through these stupid leagues and left the future of the sport dangling in the hands of greedy corporates......it's too funny the big criminals themselves now portray small fishes like sreeshant, chandila and others as the real culprits......

There is something to be said about the more modest appearing cheerleaders - with their fuller and more elegant outfits, one's attention is drawn to their faces rather than their bodies. Because of this, you see the true beauty of the girls more readily. I looked over some old photos of American cheerleaders from the 1960s and you get the same sense from these pics:

Denver Broncos:

UCLA:

St Louis Cardinals:

and here's a shocker:

That's quite a transformation!

Re: The Cricket thread

captain clown dhoni almost blew the champions trophy final with his shitty defensive captaincy......

ashwin and jadeja were spitting fire on the spinning wicket and had england reeling at 46/4 after 10 overs......they both still had five overs......captain clown brings back kumar and sharma who were clearly ineffective that day......both got clobbered again and that brought england right back into the game......instead of going for the kill, he once again chooses to allow the opposition into the game......

had morgan not choked in the end or had ashwin not taken that brilliant catch of bopara, england would have won and captain clown would have learned the lesson......funny he got away courtesy england choke.....

Re: The Cricket thread

India deserved to win the Champions Trophy. They're the best one-day cricket team in the world, no doubt, although they are a bit behind England and South Africa in the Test format.

Looking forward to the Ashes series. Australia are in chaos, it can only get better for them, can it?

since 2009 australia has been going through what windies went through from 1998 - 2008......aussies may not reach the lows of windies because of their strong domestic structure but they will struggle for a few more years......i think ashes will be very boring for that reason, england will be all over them......

i think we can take care of south africa but need sharma, kumar and yadav to be fit and on top of their game......

I concur with you. My observation at PA and MA campuses was somewhat like that (not shabby/awkward) in mid 90s compared to a decade later at a CA campus

Re: The Cricket thread

west indies will be beyond help if they continue at their current rate of madness.....how can they remove sammy from captaincy and hand it over to an absolute joke like bravo? bravo does not have the brain of a captain, he's just a decent all rounder in the middle.....

sunil narine should be ashamed......he is supposed to be the key wicket taker but he kept bowling around the wicket to contain runs like a part time bowling clown......shame on him and bravo for using that stupid tactic......you never win cricket matches by containing runs, you win by taking wickets......

it is turning into another boring one sided series as expected.....ashes has not been that entertaining before and after 2005 in the last couple of decades.....aussies, kiwis and windies totally fell prey to t20 cricket.....their test sides are a joke now.....

Re: The Cricket thread

I'm surprised there is no discussion of the Ashes. Evidently, England wins with one test remaining. While the action has been good, the pace of the series is far too slow for me.

Meanwhile, I have been enjoying the CPL series:

There has been a lot of pageantry along with the exciting matches:
